Winged Things,
By
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
Four Minnesota based authors, four tales of faeries lusting and loving, one anthology full of humor and strange hijinks.
[TALL, DARK AND NOT SO FAERY] by MaryJanice Davidson, When six feet and four inches of counting obsessed faery comes looking for Lent, the Violent Fairy to do the duty the faery king has sent her to do silliness ensues. Fortunately, Judith, the enchanted car decides there's another town resident that this gigantic faery should count and she won't take no for an answer. -- This story HAS to be read AFTER you've read the previous installment from the No Rest For The Witches anthology. It will make NO sense unless you do. That said this story was a bit silly and very weird (as the other was) but if you're in the mood for that sort of thing it's okay. 3/5 stars [PIXIE LUST] by Lois Greiman, Avalina is on a mission to find a very special fern in the woods of the Pacific Northwest but when a human unknowingly interupts that quest it will change both of their lives in ways neither expected. -- More of a lusty tale, this is a very fish-out-of-water kind of story. I, personally, found it different in a good way and really liked Greiman's writing style. 5/5 stars [DUST ME, BABY, ONE MORE TIME] by Michele Hauf, When you're the tooth fairy, having a love life can be more than a little complicated. Especially when the rules of your job include a no fraternizing with other night-workers clause and your best chance at some male attention is a premature dusting sandman. -- I dunno what it was about this one but it was so silly it was cute and I loved it. Hauf did a wonderful job of taking fairytale fairies and making them real enough to be great story characters. 5/5 stars [A LITTLE BIT FAERY] by Leandra Logan, When her living situation in the faery realm gets shaken up Tia goes on an adventure from the Isle of Man to the Island of Manhattan in search of a new life. While there she enchants a down-on-his-luck fireman and gets more than she bargained for in her search for her father. -- This well plotted storyline works really well but the faery elements were very weak and I didn't care for the hero or heroine. Not a bad contribution, just not quite as funny as the others which in my opinion seperated it from the group in a bad way. 4/5 stars In general this anthology is sure to get mixed reviews. Most I think will be buying it because of MaryJanice Davidson's contribution and thus might be disappointed. If you're buying this one for the reason I did--faery stories for adults, yay!--I think you'll likely enjoy it more. This one definitely isn't for every reader but if you like faeries (not fae, sidhe or elves but pixies!) and can handle the funny I think this one is worth picking up.

Looking for a cute anthology.. this was not it!!,
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
Magic, mayhem and faeries... a book that looked to be just what I was in the mood to read on a sunny day.
What I got was pure nonsense. The first Story by MaryJanice Davidson was a mess to be sure. The plot was very strange and didn't quite make sense to me. The rest of the anthologies were really not very interesting to me at all. The last anthology called "A Little Bit Faery" was the best of the lot for me. Interesting plot line and the characters at least made sense to me. The author, Leandra Logan, had an interesting story to tell. In my humble opinion, skip this faery book. It was not worth the time. It was sad because I adore faeries and magic and the wonderful characters that can come to life from the stories.

Wow, my first low rating on a book!,
By
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
To be honest, I really did try to like this book. I've always felt that everyone has their own style of writing and just because it's not my style.. doesn't mean it's worthless.
Even so.. I ... I just can't let this one slide.. So I'll give it a "two star" instead of a 1, in order to feel better since every book has it's value, I suppose. Pros: It has faeries, werewolves, vampires and such interesting/mythical beings. Cons: The creatures listed above are far from original, lack any form of depth, and are not only inarticulate but but are as vulgar as Hell itself! I could not connect with any of the characters no matter how hard I tried---and believe me, I tried! Apparently faeries in this book have "sparkly breast" and have only one purpose in life ---to count! I honestly felt this was a children's book in the sense that the characters were far too simplistic..but even this is an insult to children everywhere! NO DEPTH IN THE CHARACTERS!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the caps, but this was just a cheap thrill for the wo/men who like that kind of thing. Also, beware of a lot of typos in the book, for some reason. The females in this book consisted of air-heads-of very simplistic nature. In book two "pixie lust" it starts with a pixie who did not like humans or understood them and she had good reasoning for this.. but suddenly.. and I do mean SUDDENLY ..she's on the floor naked claiming to some guy she's just met "I'm yours! I'm yours!" WTF?!?!?!? Mind you, the guy had no depth, either. His mental talk was pure jibber.. So I can understand if she fell for him for his personality.. but NO! He didn't even know if it was normal for breasts to sparkle? W-T-F. Sparkling breasts were empathized in this book... over .. and over and over.. and in the same paragraph, too! What's next? Sparkling penises?? I guess that's only reserved for male-faes.. The first book.. consisted of an interesting story--or so I tried to make it as such in my head!! But the characters were too blunt... please... please save your money... I spent full price on this piece of crap.. it's horrible. I understand it's a sex book (I discovered this the hard way!) but it couldn't even sustain my interest, let alone my hormones.. (sorry, I like depth and intellect in my mind.. not men who talk about how real sex is far more better than masturbating to internet porn--the faerie didn't understand this... "nevermind" was his reply.) Lol, it's almost hilarious as I look back. Very primitive and tastelessly done. My apologies to the authors.. but their mentality is similar to that of a greasy mechanic who's mind is in it's most primitive sexuality -- far from my style. Besides, isn't it exactly that primitive mentality that, in Faerie lore, humans are generally frowned upon by these beings? Also, I like more depths to these mythical beings, than just "I like to count! MUST-COUNT!!!" P.s. I also recall that the characters seemed to generally suffer from emotional constipation.. adding to the lack of depth in their maturity/character. Nice. *facepalm* I should've made the title for this review --- > "air-headed, mindless sex, FTW???" <--- but that title might've seemed too appealing to some.

The MaryJanice Davidson story was a nice follow up to The Majika. If you didn't read that one then this one really doesn't make sense. The last story was the best in the book. I will look for more stories by Leandra Logan. It has a nice storyline and flows well. The other 2 stories are a waste of time. They are not cohesive and are difficult to understand.

3+ stars - More mild than wild, there are some cute moment in this fluffy collection of Faerie love,

This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
While I was expecting a bit more romance from these shorts, Faeries Gone Wild does have some wacky moments. In the romance department this anthology of Fae love is more mild than wild, but if you are looking for humor instead of heat, maybe this collection of Faerie fluff will be just the thing to tickle your funny bone.
MaryJanice Davidson fans will recognize most of the cast in "Tall Dark and Not So Faery" as Davidson revisits her unusual 'family' of paranormals from her short "Magicka" (No Rest for the Witches). This time an OCD counting fairy falls for an ADD giant crossbreed. - A good third of the story is just catching up with our old friends and the last part shares the main hookup and a minor one for another mismatched pair - so not much of a romance but typical Davidson stream of consciousness wackiness. A warning though, it is likely that readers who haven't read "Magika" will find this story just plan bizarre. (3 stars) Lois Grieman's "Pixie Lust" hooks up a nature spirit fairy, Avalina, with a raze-the-wetlands developer William - there is just something about the angelic naked woman who mysteriously appears in William's bathroom that discombobulates him and derails his neatly planned life - this is probably the steamiest of the bunch. But even though it was more serious and more focused on the starring pair than some of the others, I am pretty hero-centric and the dazed William just didn't do it for me (3 stars) Michelle Hauf's "Dust Me Baby One More Time" was my favorite out of the four stories in this collection - there was some humor as the gorgeous Sand Man with premature dusting issues, falls for the Tooth Fairy who is so bent on fitting in the Mortal Realm that she's lost touch with her fairy side - this one was cute and since the pair have to work past his problem of putting his partner to sleep during foreplay the relationship is a little better developed (4 stars) In "A Little Bit Faery" half human half fae, Tia, is a bust in the Fae dating department- her earthy smell has all the guys fleeing. So she decides to find her human dad and to embrace her other half. The change of locale changes Tia's luck and changes sexy firefighter Alec's too - author Leandra Logan's story has a silly humorous tone that fits well in the anthology, the romance is secondary to fixing Tia's self esteem and Alec's damaged psyche but it was still cute. (3.5 stars)

Faery Lust and Mortal Love!,

"Tall, Dark and Not So Faery" MaryJanice Davidson
Scarlett is on a mission. A very important mission. A mission from the King, and she will let no one stand in her way. Unfortunately for Scarlett it is not a person that is hindering her, but a large, heavy, wooden door that is constantly closing in her face. If she can just get through that door, Scarlett would discover a strange and odd mix of individuals, she would make new friends, find old family and quite possibly fall in love... But only if she can get through the front door first. "Pixie Lust" Lois Greiman Avalina has entered the Mortal world for one reason only, to search for a rare plant, a Fern. But this is no ordinary Fern, at least not to a Fay, for it is believed to hold medicinal properties, and Avalina, being a Fern Fay, is determined to find it. What she didn't count on was finding William. Only the fickle and decadent flower faeries entered the Mortal world to consort with men. So why then all of a sudden is Avalina acting just like the silly flower faeries she has so little respect for, and is being with William really worth all the trouble? "Dust Me, Baby, One More Time" Michele Hauf Sidney may be leading a double life, but both lives are as straight-laced as you can get. By day she is Sidney Tooth, librarian and Reverie local, keeping very much to herself. By night she is the Tooth Faery, silently entering homes and exchanging teeth for coins. Nothing can upset Sidney's work routine, nothing that is except Dart. Sidney may not have time to sleep, but is she willing to make time for Dart Sand, the Sandman? "A Little Bit Faery" Leandra Logan Tia Mayberry has never quite fit in to the Enchanted Realm. Everything about her just seems wrong compared to the elegant faeries that call the Enchanted Realm home. So Tia has decided to try her luck in the Mortal Realm, she is leaving the Isle of Man for the Isle of Manhattan. But will her luck be any better among the humans, and will she be able to overcome her secret past to find happiness in the future? In these four stories you will find naughty tales of pixy lust and adoring fables of faery love. Highly imaginative and vividly romantic, these stories are not for the faint of heart, these are definitely faery-tales for adults only. If you love faeries and love love, you will love this book.

Faeries Gone Wild,
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
"Tall, Dark and Not So Faery" by Mary Janice Davidson
In a continuation from her short in the "No Rest for the Witches" anthology, we meet Scarlett, a faery sent to count a household on the edges of nowhere. Despite finding a car that is possessed, a mixture of humans, weres and vamps all living together, she is slightly more surprised to see her brother, the Violent Fairy, living amongst them. But she is even more surprised to meet Coffee Ray, a half-giant who makes her six-foot-four-inches seem piddly. As this uptight faery meets this laid back giant, things get interesting. "Pixie Lust" by Lois Greiman William Timber had it all - escaped from his mother's hippy beliefs, a fiancé who looks great on his arm (and is the boss' daughter, too), and a great development project that is going to make his name in the business. Until the day Avaline drops, literally, intro his life. His instant lust/infatuation/love with her makes his goals all seem so far away and when those former goals threaten not just their love, but her, he knows something has to change. "Dust Me Baby, One More Time" by Michele Hauf The designated tooth faery for this sleepy little town loves her job. She has worked hard to stay here and assimilate with the humans, even getting a job as a librarian. But her hard-won freedom is about to be eliminated by a group of uppity parents bent on abolishing the Tooth Fairy. Help arrives in the unexpected form of Dart Sand, a sandman with a premature dusting problem, but with the abs of a god. Together, they work to free the town's children from a life missing the Tooth Fairy and other childhood wonders. "A Little Bit Faery" by Leandra Logan Tia gets booted from her home because she just can't seem to land a man. Things are going great and then BAM! No more guy. She can't figure it out until one day her mother finally tells her that she is half -human and the other faeries just can't stand the smell of her. So she heads off the mortal realm in search of her father. In New York, she meets injured firefighter, Alec, who runs the building she moves into. And while it seems they are moving quickly, they both realize they were meant to meet each other and help the other find their way. Faeries Gone Wild was one of the best anthologies I have read in a long time. I love every story, with its very different take on the theme of faeries letting loose. They were all charming, funny, easy to read and overall worth the money and the time. A definite must for fans of faeries and paranormals everywhere. Niki Lee Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Faeries Go Wild, But Sweetly,
By
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
In this adorable anthology, you will find four novellas of fairies in search of romance. They go mildly wild, yes, but sweetly. All of the authors are from Minnesota.
The 4 stories in the collection are: 1. "Tall, Dark, and Not So Faery" by MaryJanice Davidson. Faery princess Scarlett travels to the mortal realm to take a faery census in the home of her brother, the Violent Faery. He's just married a dryad, and they have a new baby. He also shares quarters with a vampire, a werewolf, and an enchanted automobile named Judith. Quite unexpectedly, Scarlett finds a love of her own...Coffee Ray, who happens to have some giant in him. 2. "Pixie Lust" by Lois Greiman. Fern faery Avalina travels to the mortal realm to protect an endangered species of her favorite plant. Accidentally plucked along with a flower while she's in her tiny form, she grows to human size and takes over the life of down-to-earth William. William must learn to rediscover his hippie heritage to rescue the fern, and Avalina. 3. "Dust Me, Baby, One More Time" by Michele Hauf. Sidney is a tooth faery with a boring social life and a liking for Carrie and the girls of Sex and the City. She literally bumps into Dart Sand, a sexy blond surfer-dude sandman, on the job, and there is an instant attraction. There's only one problem: when Dart gets excited, he dusts everything in sight, sending Sidney snoring. Will they be able to overcome his premature dusting problem...and a town full of women urging their children not to believe in the tooth fairy? 4. "A Little Bit Faery" by Leandra Logan. Tia Mayberry is stunned to learn her father is human. She travels to the mortal realm, hoping to meet him...and runs into Alec Simon, a hunky firefighter recovering from being injured in the line of duty.

FAERIES GONE WILD,
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
I swore last time I would not waste my money on another one of Mary Janice Davidsons books again. I actually read the last story before any of the others, seeing as they are by 4 different authors I thought there would be a chance something would be a good read. I was mistaken. Horrible writing and predictable stories. Dont waste your money.

Faeries Gone Wild,
By Always Reading Something (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faeries Gone Wild (Mass Market Paperback)
Tall, Dark and Not So Faery is the worst piece of writing I have ever read. Hers is the first novelle in a four author book. There has rarely been a time when I was tempted to just stop reading something, but Davidson's piece had me contemplating just that. If it were not for the piece to abruptly end I would have just skipped onto the second novelle. I have never read anything by MaryJanice Davidson and doubt I ever will again; her writing style is terrible. Choppy, poorly conceived plot and horrible characters. I am very happy that I was able to purchase this book at a discount price; at least I didn't lose too much money. Don't waste your time.
