5.0 out of 5 stars Unearthly Beauty
I had seen Gadd's artwork before on her website and in an anthology of fairy art, but I still wasn't prepared for the incredible, unearthly beauty of this amazing book. Here, Gadd presents an incredible collection of fairies light and dark, leprechauns, unicorns, mermaids, and even a few witches and vampires! 3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
I do love many of Maxine Gadd's paintings, however the majority of my favorites are not included in this book. The image, "Frost" is included but what a poor reproduction it is in here. You'd be better off ordering a print or the greeting card if you want to revel in this image. I own the greeting card, and it is BEAUTIFUL. They way she paints that platinum hair is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Unearthly Beauty, January 23, 2006
This review is from: Faeries and Other Fantastical Folk: The Faery Paintings of Maxine Gadd (Hardcover)
Her color is simply stunning, from the fiery eyes to the gossamer wings and mermaid's tails. If you love fairies, fantasy, or Gadd herself, you absolutely MUST get this book. Gadd tells us in the introduction that she made a promise to herself as a child to paint fairies the way they truly are: bold, fiery, and full of otherworldly color. That promise has more than been fulfilled, and I for one am eternally thankful.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book!, February 19, 2006
This review is from: Faeries and Other Fantastical Folk: The Faery Paintings of Maxine Gadd (Hardcover)
I found Maxine's work in the book to be intricately detailed and exciting! Each magical image awakens the viewer's sense of curiosity and imagination, returning her to a delightfully dreamy state of mind long forgotten under the responsibilities and restrictions of adulthood.

The book has tons of high-quality color photos, and is nicely bound with a padded cover and even gold-tipped pages!

Maxine Gadd is truly one of the most amazing fantasy artists of not only the 21st century, but of all time!

Maxine Gadd's paintings are pure eye candy for those who like magical creatures. They are NOT run of the mill images! The book has gilded pages and a nice padded cover. I am extremely pleased with it and all whom I have shared it with have liked it also.

This is truly an amazing, delightful, fantastical book! I love Maxine Gadd's work; I couldn't wait to buy this book, and I have not been disappointed!
Even the few of the paintings that are obviously not as 'finished' or detailed as her usual work are truly magical, nonetheless.
This is one book that will find a seat of honor among my Fantasy/Faerie Tale collection!
I cannot find a thing wrong here; if you are looking to spend your money on any book of this type, look no further...this is IT!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Faeries and Other Fantastical Folk: The Faery Paintings of Maxine Gadd (Hardcover)
They way she paints that platinum hair is breathtaking. I was so disappointed to find my favorite image so poorly reproduced in her book. The image "Frost" appears faded and doesn't justify its beauty at all. Also, "Emeron, Branwyn, Haegeth, Gingerbread House, Toadstool House" to name a few loved works are left out.

I found most of the images to be her more "weird" works. I regret to use this word, however for my taste and for others who adore my book list, I believe you will find this to be true.

Look on Fatara World dot com and order your favorites instead. I hope one day she publishes another book with more of my favorites.

I'm a big faery fan so I was delighted to find this pretty book of faery portraits--all are pretty and some are quite impressive artistically. An attractive book and a nice gift for someone who is a fairy collector, especialy if they like the more pretty, girly kind of faeries!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Faerie Book and Artist!!!, July 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I must start by saying that I have a very large collection of books with Fairy art, both old and new. That being said, this is my absolute favorite! Maxine Gadd's artwork is phenomenal. Fae Folk, both Light and Dark, abound in this beautiful book. Faeries, Pixies, Goblins and Mermaids are all represented with glorious abandon. My favorites include "Love Potion"; a gorgeous Fairy Witch in Red and "Coralina"; a shell adorned Sea Nymph or Mermaid.

I personally own several copies, with my favorite being the Velvet covered edition in the Gift Box. I have also given several copies as gifts to special friends and they too loved the artwork and the books. For those that are drawn to the realm of Fae and Fantasy this book will be a welcome addition to their Fairy library. And I treasure my copies as Maxine Gadd is my absolute FAVORITE Fae Artist!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful art book..., June 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Length:: 0:26 Mins

Let me start by saying that the presentation of the book itself is gorgeous. The sides of the pages are gilt, the binding tight and the photography lush and glossy. This is a book that I can easily say would make a great gift. I would like to say that as an advisory there is some nudity in the book, so I would not recommend this for really small kids.

I wasn't all that familiar with Maxine Gadd's paintings, but seeing that I had every other fairy artist's book I wanted to expand my collection. I'm open to all types of art, so I decided to go ahead and purchase this book. I wasn't disappointed in any way. The book is full of reproductions of the artist's work and is accompanied by various poetry. I am not all too fond of poetry in general and I wish that instead of poetry there was actual information about the artist. That was the only thing this book was lacking-- real background information on the artist.

There is a very nice range of art inside of this book anywhere from vampire lovers to faery queens. I also love how all of the paintings look different. I know a lot of artists are guilty of using the same pose or character in several paintings, but not Maxine Gadd. Overall very beautiful book that I would recommend to any faery lover of all ages who enjoy beautiful, lush artwork. I provided a video that quickly flips through my copy of the book to show what one can expect to see inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Faeries and Other Fantastical Folk: The Faery Paintings of Maxine Gadd (Hardcover)
This books is just beautiful. The graphics are sharp and clean, perfect for the art project I bought it for. But for children, this would be a wonderful picture book to introduce them to faeries and mermaids and such... Just lovely pictures and a good reference to the artwork of Maxine Gadd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful artwork, February 12, 2008
This review is from: Faeries and Other Fantastical Folk: The Faery Paintings of Maxine Gadd (Hardcover)
This book contains very nice paintings of faeries, and I really loved the sentences of the author that you found along the way.

I'm usually very picky when it comes to faeries drawings, as I never seem to found ones that I really like enough to buy, but when I saw this book in a book store I knew I had to buy it!
