Book Description

January 1, 1995
Beware the Gifts of Arcadia!

There is a world that underlies Mythic Europe, a world of perfect beauty, living light, and dark horror the world of the faeries. Follow the part-faerie troubadour Gerin as he pursues the faerie queen who stole his infant sister. Read first-hand accounts of faerie encounteres, given by wizards and peasants, holy men and diabolists. And learn the ways of prudent courtesy on which the lives of visitors depend in the faerie lands of Arcadia, a place where light and dark are directions as well as qualities, and where creativity can transform the very substance of reality.

Faeries features:

* Extensive interior art, including a full-color center spread
* The story of Gerin, which runs throughout the book and illustrates the ways of the faeries
* Legends and stories of mortals' dealings with faeries
* Detailed faerie races and creatures, accompanied by scenario ideas for each
* A guide to generating and playing faerie characters

(Revised Edition)

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book that does a very good job describing AM Fae, July 12, 2000
This review is from: Faeries, Revised Ed. (Ars Magica) (Paperback)
The book is divided in four parts: Faeries in the Mortal World, Faeries in Legend & Lore, Faeries in Arcadia and Faeries in Ars Magica. The first three parts are preceded by fiction detailing the story of Gerin the troubadour. The first one is self-explanatory: it details the presence of Fae in our world and their relationships with the four estates (peasants, clergy, nobility and magi). The second one has one of the best chapters in the book, Customs and Curiosity, detailing things such as Faerie gifts, oaths nd contracts and changelings, for example.

The third part, Faeries in Arcadia, offers a fantastic opportunity for creative Storyguides: adventuring in Arcadia. A really, really weird place, when regular geography is substituted by ideas and concepts.

The last part of the book, Faeries in Ars Magica, is much more rules-oriented than the previous three. Rules for Regios, a Faerie Bestiary, rules for Faerie (very powerful; the glitch is that you'll never, ever get XPs) and faerie-touched characters (with new Virtues and Flaws to detail the later).
