While a series of interconnected stories through time isn't a new idea, it IS a new twist to have a single faery growing up through the stories, ending up with her very own love story at the end. I found FAERY SPECIAL ROMANCES by Jacquie Rogers to be absolutely charming. In fact, I can't wait to read it again!

faery special is right,

This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book! It is unlike any romance novel I have come across before. This book has it all, romance stories from every time frame and genre, western, medieval, pirate, Shakespeare and modern. It is filled with intriging people and faeries. It has magic and faery dust and women falling for faeries and faeries falling for men and humans in love with humans. Just a bit of everything.
This started out as a short story in the No Law Against Love Anthology. It was one of the best stories in that book and definately worth a novel of its own. What was truly amazing is that the entire collection of stories flowed easily from one to the next. In each story, the characters were well developed and interesting. I was pleasantly surprised that each of the many characters and various races in the book had distinct personalities and were easy to keep apart. I really enjoyed this unique mix of fantasy, humor and romance. I was uncertain about what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. It was an origional book and worth every penny. Even better, all proceeds from the book go to the Children's Tumor Foundation! I would recommend this book to everyone. There is bound to be a story in here just for you!

A Faery Special Book,

This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
A more delightful collections of Faery stories you will not find anywhere. I loved Keely, the faery maiden, and her many adventures.
Jacquie Rogers' talent shines in this "enchanted" collection. My particular favorite was "Much Ado About Faeries". Throughout this collection Rogers delightfully plays with the reader's emotions from serious to humorous, never missing a beat. Well, done, Ms. Rogers!

A different kind of romance,
This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
When I first started reading Ms. Roger's story, I didn't know if I would like reading in first person. But Ms. Roger's stories were so fascinating, and her characters were so charming, I was pulled into the book and couldn't stop reading. I laughed out loud several times, and I fell in love with every character...in all ten of her short stories. I'm not sure I can pick a favorite, but I have to admit, I did finished the book wearing a smile because Keely (the Princess Faery who was in all the stories) finally got her own story. It was a great read and I want to congratulate Ms. Rogers for writing such a different kind of romance.

Faery Special Stories!,

If I had to describe Ms. Rogers in 2 words, I would say "master storyteller." Give the woman an impetuous faery prone to meddling, then tell Ms. Rogers to write 10 love stories that include said faery, and watch out! This solo anthology is just plain fun from beginning to end.

A steamy Historical Fantasy,
By
This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
Princess Keely was the Faery cupid in my opinion. She was always matchmaking the two most incompatible people, but they always fell in love and had a happy Faery Tale ending.
This book Faery Special Romances is a collection of ten short romantic stories of the meddlings of a faery child growing into adulthood. Mixing and matching and just taking pure chance, Keely always succeeds in making the two lonesome souls fall head over heels in love with their mate. My favorite story in this collection was Faeries Of The Caribbean. I love the pirate attitude of Captain Devlin Angel. Ms. Rogers has captured my heart with this story. A serving wench knew not what would come of her Faery God Mother's dealings when she wished for the son of a viscount and to be able to hear the wind from the sea. Never in a million years would Myra even consider marrying a pirate. Myra and Captain Angel's first meeting was not a pleasant one as the constant rocking of the ship made Myra very ill. Vomiting on the Captain of a Pirate ship was not a good thing. But it was honestly funny. I loved the words Ms. Rogers supplied; " God 'a Mercy." But with Keely doing all the matchmaking what happens when her turn comes around? Will she be able to keep her heart? Or will she fall head over wings in love? The cover for this book is very deceiving, I thought I would be reading a fantasy tale of love and faery sprinkles; well it had those things but it also had some very hot sexual scenes that scorched the pages! Ms. Rogers has captured the Historical side of Faery Land with the language of the time periods, clothing, as well as the description of surroundings. I felt like I could see myself in this book. The characters are wonderful creatures that make you laugh out loud and wonder from story to story about what sort of trouble they're going to get into. Ms. Rogers deserved all 5 hearts I am giving for her collection of short romances. I think every one needs a little Faery Dust to carry around in their pockets.

Faery Special Romances by Jacquie Rogers is a delightful collection of short stories each connected by the faery Princess Keely starting with Keely as a precocious kindergartner in the year 1199 and ends sometime in the future after the frozen time With Keely's own love story.
This is a sweet romance with some steamy hot scenes. Jacquie Rogers' characters are well developed and you could picture the story playing in your imagination as you read. I had a very hard time putting the book down. I Jacquie is donating the royalties from this book to The Children's Tumor Foundation to help find a cure for Neurofibromatosis. This is a great read and you will not be disappointed.

A Faery Good Book,
By Gerri Bowen "Gerri Bowen, author." (Hanover, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
Faery Special Romances is a treat, especially if you like faeires mixed with your romance. Ten stories brimming with exuberant love of life, the author's wonderful imagination, and best of all each story features its own faery. And Keely. Jacquie Rogers created Keely, faery of the Rainbow Clan, with her debut in the No Law Against Love anthology by Highland Press. The stories in Faery Special Romances span the ages, beginning in 1199 and ending in the future, Shortly after the Frozen Time. The author did her research, because the stories flowed no matter what era she was writing about, Medieval, Regency or flapper. Sometimes the faeries were male, and sometimes the love interest was a human, but all were special. Keely appears in every story, starring in the final story, which was my favorite.
Besides Keely present in each story, each story is connected, which you don't realize until you're almost finished the book. I liked that. I also liked how the author created different clans of faeries, giving just enough information to whet our appetite for more. I'd love for the author to write a full novel, or novels, chock full of her faeries, learning more about their clans, their lives, their loves. I highly recommend Faery Special Romances. And you'll love the cover too, which features Keely.

This book is truly Faery Special,

This review is from: Faery Special Romances (Paperback)
Faery Special Romances is a collection of short stories starring the men and women of the faery world and their life-mates in the human and faery worlds. Each story in FSR represents a different time in history, and Ms. Rogers does a magnificent job of researching and relaying all sorts of wonderful tidbits from accurately describing armor from the 12th Century, life on a pirate ship in the 1600s, the wild west in 1885, the Roaring 20s, and many other times. All the stories tell tales of love and sacrifice and happy endings.
Keely, a very special faery, is the common element in all these stories, taking her from a young child to giving her a love story of her own as an adult faery. I fell in love with Keely when I first read of her in Faery Good Advice in the No Law Against Love anthology. Throughout the stories, she's on a learning curve as a matchmaker, sometimes making mistakes but always sincere and finally helps all the characters make their dreams come true. Every story is funny, heartwarming, and sexy. I don't know which characteristic I liked best, because they all are written in equal measure and with a lot of love. Ms. Rogers' sense of humor and whimsy captivated me. I could recommend reading Faery Special Romances if you need a little spiritual pick-me-up during your day, if you need a laugh, if you need a quick sense of adventure, or of romance. Perhaps the most impressive fact of this book is that all the royalties will be donated to the Children's Tumor Foundation to aid in raising awareness and the research of neurofibromatosis. Keely is a wonderful ambassador to this cause. I know you'll enjoy the artistry of each and every story and maybe start looking amongst yourselves for a faery friend in your own life.

In June 2006 I wrote: Jacquie Rogers is a fantastic storyteller. I've had the privilege of a 'sneak preview' of this wonderful work, and I can't wait to get my copy! You will enjoy Jacquie's quirky characterizations, rich imaginative tales and sense of humor. A 'faery good read'.
In September 2007 I added: Okay, now that I've actually read the entire book, let me tell you, I've never encountered one quite like it. Unique, beautifully written and classic humor! This is on my keeper shelf! |
