One of THE best books on the Faery Tradition.....,
By
This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
I really cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you care delving into and searching for a complete and transforming book on faerie.ancestor work...THIS ONE IS IT. I've read many a book on faeries and 99% are just cut and paste fluff and filler. This one is the real deal. Evocative artwork and prose (with enchanting snipits of poetry from all the best enchanted poets over the centuries)....these practices and essays will change your life.
I have read this book 3 times and I am sure to reread it over and over. I glean something new from it each time. Here are the chapters since nothing much about the book is listed here.... A Note to the Reader Foreward (by R.J. Stewart) Introduction 1. The Sacred Questions 2. The Faery Seership Tradtion 3. The Core Teachings 4. The Worlds and Powers of Faery 5. Faery Gateways and the Realms of Enchantment 6. The Tribes of the Faery Races 7. The Ancestor Spirits and the Riveer of Blood 8. The Sacred Land and the Power of Place 9. Of Sleepers and Seekers 10. Beyond the Hedge: Living in Two Worlds 11. Spirit Communication and the Second Sight 12. Faery Magic 13. Groves and Shrines 14. The Faery Gifts and the Faery Lover 15. The Nine Faery Vision Keys A word about the Vision Key cards, they blew me away. The artwork and obvious power of these images is undeniable. This is a must book if you are at all interested in serious, in-depth work with Faeries. Look around there are very cheap copies elsewhere...

excellent serious book about the fae,

This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
Orion Foxwood is an excellent teacher and this book is an easy read and good introduction into the serious world of the faery. Faery are not gossamer winged creatures of our imagination. If you wish to truly learn about their world and how to work with them, start with this book.

Excellent guide to the faery realm,
This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
This was the first book I read about working with the Fae, and so far it's been the best treatment of the subject. Orion outlines what he believes is important to understand about them and about yourself in this world and the otherworld, and what the best ways, times, and attitudes are of approaching the Fae. He thoroughly covers the Faery Seership Tradition, which is essentially a collection of faerie lore, magical practices, customs, and techniques from all over the world but mostly from Ireland, Scotland, and England. He extensively covers what he has learned from these and his own personal experience, and uses alot of quotes from authors like Lewis Spencer, RJ Stewart, Fiona MacLeod, and WB Yeats to support his ideas, yet this is far from the run of the mill cut and paste books on the subject.
Orion puts his heart, soul, and his all into this work, and it shows. Nearly everyone I have showed this book to said that they felt the energy from it go up their entire arm! The 9 vision cards/keys are very beautiful and powerful and can be used for insight and understanding of the Faery realm. He goes into the different tribes of faeries, the portals from which are good power spots to enter their realm, and what is necessary to gain the "Second Sight", or ability to see the Fae. He also covers faery magic, shrine/altars, and traditional offerings. The book includes 7 visions/meditations, including a wonderful "Traveling Eyes" vision where you imagine rolling your eyes down your body to your underworld body and view the realm from there. Fortunately, I was able to get the 1st printing of this book after going to one of Orion Foxwood's workshops, which is an experience I recommend not missing if he comes near you. He speaks from love and obviously alot of experience in his book, but I noticed a couple people here commented that he doesn't reveal enough personal experience with the Fae. He doesn't, I agree, but I think the main reason he didn't do that was to not risk betraying any confidence he has with the underworld beings he comes in contact with, and he stresses that innocence and trust are major elements with which to work with the Fae. He also may not wish to influence your own experiences with them. Yes, there are a few typos too, which I agree with one reviewer is unfortunate for such an otherwise well-written book. If you are willing to accept your inner child and are seriously seeking a life-long true and honest friendship with the Fae, this book is an excellent beginner's guide from a Seer who has alot of experience with them. It's not easy and takes alot of dedication, but the rewards are tremendous.

Big on ritualism and tradition,
By Reader (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
I was disappointed in this book. It is so big on ritualism and traditional folk tales that it misses the mark. The author gives exercises for contacting faery folk, but his methods are long-winded and way more involved than they need to be. He also has his own ideas about the ONLY ways to do it. Believe me, there are many paths to otherworlds, and his high-handed approach is boring and tiresome. Also, he says things like how you don't want to test the fairies on giving your word and things like that because he knows from personal experience. But he never tells what his personal experiences were. In fact, throughout the book I was waiting and waiting for some of his genuine personal experiences, but that never occurred.
If you want to contact fair folk and would like some genuine insight, I recommend the book The Sidhe by John Matthews. It's straightforward and easy to understand. It gives a feeling of "realness" and gives you a method for reaching the fairies that is easy and profound.

The Faery Teachings,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
Though this is a fairly good book, I also agree with several items the person who gave the book a less favorable review mentioned. It is a short on mentioning personal experiences and there are ways to make contact that may take less effort to do. I have read The Sidhe by Matthews and agree he has easier exercises anyone can follow.
One other point I would also like to address. This seems to be happening way too often. It is becoming obvious the publishers and their editors do *not* bother to proof read anything they publish any more. Books are getting too expensive these days to be putting out such bad products. Example: "I know longer..." should obviously read "I no longer..." and another example: "a masculine being that is stands at the threshold.." Is this meant to read "a masculine being that stands at the threshold" or "a masculine being that is standing at the threshold"? There are more throughout the book and this should be unacceptable by both the author and the consumers of their books. It further makes the author appear very illiterate and one would think any intelligent writer would be concerned about how their publishing company makes them appear to the public. It becomes difficult to take the author seriously when we have to wade, often knee deep, in typographical errors. Their ability to write becomes very questionable. Purchasing and reading older books published before 1995 may be a better idea whenever possible.

Outstanding work!!,
By Ruby Sara "RS" (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
This is one of the best books on the subject I have ever read. A gorgeous path, presented in such a way as to be accessible to both the beginner and the advanced student. A path full of wonder, true magic, and the secrets below the bells of earth. I recommend this book to anyone deeply interested in the mysteries, spirits and powers of earth, traditional witchcraft, seership, and the people of Faery. Obviously, I can't praise it enough. This book has had a profound effect on my practice.

I loved this book!,

This review is from: The Faery Teachings (Paperback)
Orion has compiled years of training with the Southern folk magic he learned as child to give us the amazing material. If you like his book, you'll love his workshops. I've learned much about the Fae but also much about the ancestors and the role they play in the Underworld. It opens up doors that most of don't have access to. It is an important book to read for anyone who wants to do earth healing.

By Anya Beswick (Kansas) - See all my reviews

Orion is, quite simply, one of the best teachers of Faery in the Cosmos. This book is an incredible journey into the realm of all that Faery and Cunning magic can be. A must read for anyone who is truly interested in the Awakening.
