The major complaint is that this item is not the Cook's Illustrated product. Cook's Illustrated recommended the FAGOR DUO model not all FAGORS. If they can read the Cook's Illustrated article but that can't read the amazon description.

The item is fine but it is fagor's cheaper product line. The DUOs are more expensive and have more features. This is a fine...

AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH I WENT AHEAD AND ORDERED THIS SET DESPITE THE 3 TERRIBLE REVIEWS. I'VE DECIDED 3 REVIEWS AREN'T ENOUGH DATA TO MAKE A JUDGEMENT. I WILL ALWAYS READ REVIEWS...BUT ALSO INVESTIGATE MYSELF AND THEN DECIDE.

FIRST, THOUGH ONE REVIEWER CALLS HIMSELF "DR.", HIS INFORMATION IS INCORRECT. HE SAYS IT IS NOT STAINLESS STEEL, BUT IT DEFINITELY IS 18/10 STAINLESS STEEL. STAINLESS STEELS ARE MADE OF VARYING ALLOYS AND HIS MAGNET TEST IS SIMPLY NOT A VALID TEST...SOME ALLOYS ARE MAGNETIC AND SOME ARE NOT. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT COOKING ACIDIC FOODS IN THIS COOKER.

SECONDLY, ANOTHER REVIEWER STATES THAT THEY ARE UPSET ABOUT THE "COOK'S ESSENTIALS" RATHER THAN "FAGOR" LABELING. THIS COOKER IS MADE BY FAGOR AND THOUGH IT IS NOT THE VERY BEST PRESSURE COOKER SOLD...[SOME ARE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS]...IT IS MADE TO FAGOR'S SAFETY STANDARDS...I GUARANTEE THAT LIFTING THIS LARGE COOKER WITH A FULL BATCH OF FOOD WITHIN WILL REQUIRE TWO HANDS...IT IS NOT A "LIGHT WEIGHT" OR POORLY CONSTRUCTED.

IF YOU ARE WORRIED SOMEONE IS GOING TO INSPECT YOUR PRESSURE COOKER AND DETERMINE THAT "HORRORS! IT'S COOK'S ESSENTIALS!"...THEN YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT THINGS THAT MATTER VERY LITTLE TO ME...BUT I DO THINK AMAZON SHOULD USE "COOK'S ESSENTIALS BY FAGOR" TO DESIGNATE THE COOKER...NOT JUST IMPLY IT'S A FAGOR IN DESCRIPTIONS.

AS FOR THE CANNING MATERIALS INCLUDED...THEY ARE THE SAME AS A SET OFFERED BY FAGOR. IF YOU ARE A SUPER CANNER YOU SHOULD GET ONE OF THE HUGE CANNING COOKERS SOLD AT AMAZON.

THIS PRESSURE COOKER SET FOR UNDER 30 DOLLARS IS A BARGAIN AND IS PROBABLY ONLY MARKED DOWN BECAUSE OF AN ERRONEOUS REVIEW. PRESSURE COOKER MEALS CAN BE SO DELICIOUS...CLEAN UP IS OFTEN EASIER...AND COOKING FOODS IN PRESSURE COOKERS VIRTUALLY ELIMINATES THE POSSIBILITY OF FOOD POISONING IN THESE DAYS WHEN WE HEAR OF FOOD RECALLS ALMOST DAILY.

I HOPE THIS REVIEW HELPS YOU.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fagor/Cooks Essentials Pressure Canner, October 22, 2007
This review is from: Fagor 12-Piece Pressure Cooker and Canner Set (Kitchen)
I received my pressure cooker today, and it is definitely stainless steel. The first thing I did was READ THE BOOKLETS that were sent with the PC. Lo and behold! The booklet says it is made by FAGOR and given the COOKS ESSENTIALS name, which is exclusive to QVC. In other words, it is a Fagor pressure cooker, same quality as any other Fagor pressure cooker, but carries the name Cooks Essentials because it was made to be sold by QVC. This information is on the back of the booklet with the recipes. Having canned for many years, I knew it wouldn't hold 10 quart-size canning jars. I have a 22-qt. pressure canner and can only get 14 qt. jars in that. The 10 quarts is the capacity of the pressure cooker......not how many jars you can put in it. I have given the PC the water test, and it passed with flying colors. I will be cooking something in it very soon, and am sure I will love it as much as I love my Cooks Essentials 8-qt. digital PC. My only regret is that I didn't buy one of these for my sister for Christmas.

It is definitely stainless steel and is made by Fagor as well. The label on the cooker is cook's essential but manufacturer is Fagor. Supporting manual says so as well.

It is not the heaviest cooker I have but for its price and for the utility we have in mind, it is perfect. I love the finish of the product. And yes, I do have some aluminum cookers as well and they are way different from this.

Another feature I love about this is the fact it has non-stick coating on the inside. We have already used it couple of times in 1 week and are very satisfied.

The item is fine but it is fagor's cheaper product line. The DUOs are more expensive and have more features. This is a fine product but I agree its not great product. It should NOT be Buyer Beware, it should be BUYER AWARE. If you don't mind buying a Ford Taurus instead of a Cadillac than this model is good for you.

Identical to the $100 Fagor Duo but with non-stick and the glass top/canning stuff.

I am not sure non-stick is needed in a pressure cooker, they tend to be self cleaning.

I really appreciate those who posted the erroneous negative reviews early on, I bet that helped lower the price.

Don't be fooled, great deal, excellent pressure cooker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creating great meals, October 16, 2007
This review is from: Fagor 12-Piece Pressure Cooker and Canner Set (Kitchen)
I see a whole lot of people arguing that this is a piece of junk. It doesn't can right, it is aluminum, etc. I am sorry they are disappointed. I have had nothing but great experiences with this pressure cooker. I love the size - I am able to feed a small army on short notice; yes, the cooker is large, but it is fairly maneuverable, especially on a trip to the sink to release pressure quickly. I have made roasts, stews and soups with this set as a pressure cooker, and have enjoyed the fantastic results! I also enjoy that I can use it as a stock pot for an especially large family gathering. Although I do not can, I am hoping to do a little this fall, and this has all of the equipment I need for a small batch. I am very happy with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one I have tried!, November 21, 2007
This review is from: Fagor 12-Piece Pressure Cooker and Canner Set (Kitchen)
I paid 25 dollars with free shipping. I had an OLD pressure cooker and wanted to update. I must tell you, I searched for a month or so and couldn't come to terms with paying 100+ for a cooker that I didn't use to often.

I ordered this and I must say I AM IMPRESSED! It's good quality (don't believe the other reviews...some people just cannot be pleased), very well made, has a TON of accessories, and cannot be beat for the price.

It comes with ladle and other attachments. My husband commented that we would have paid at least 5 dollars just for the ladle, not including the funnel and everything else.

This is a pressure cooker that I will not feel paranoid about having on in the kitchen with my young children running around.

5 stars all the way...it's durable, and very very good quality.

best deal of the year!

This is a solid starter set for those who want to start pressure cooking, I would say that the pot its self is on the cheaper side but still a great product. I noticed that it can require some giggling to get the seals to take hold nd start building pressure.

This was my first pressure cooker and I am very pleased with its performance. It has gotten lots of use and has produced many delicious meals. I purchased it before there were any posted reviews (and at a higher price than many other reviewers, I see); however, I have no regrets and would recommend it.

This review is from: Fagor 12-Piece Pressure Cooker and Canner Set (Kitchen)
Purchased this item and only got the canner set.. not the pressure cooker.
Pulled up the item in Amazon and a new description was there with no pressure cooker. Luckily I print every descript at time of purchase.
Called Amazon and was told the vendor, Macy's, must has messed up the description and they could do nothing about it.
Macy's told me to contact Amazon.. back and forth I went until I demanded to talk to supervisors. It appears that Macy's was legally responsible for the mistake.
Macy's appologized but said the entire kit cost way more then the selling price and it was an accident. They offered for me to return what I received for a refund. I stated if they notified me shortly after purchase that would be fine, but to wait until I complained, plus the run around I now insist they match what I ordered or we would see us in court for "bait and switch".
2 days later I received a small box of make-up and an appology letter. Being a single male I was really getting upset. I want to can food not makeup.
One last try with Macy's and demanding to "talk with whoever you work for" Finally I got a beautiful Fagor pressure cooked.

Large easy to use pressure cooker. Top quality merchandise!
