4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value!
It appears that the pasta insert is deep enough to be covered with approximately 4-quarts of water. That is plenty for a large family pasta feast. The reason I rated this 4-stars rather than 5 is that I normally cook thin spaghetti and where I would prefer a 2" solid band around the bottom of the pasta insert (to butt the dry pasta against), there are more draining...

1.0 out of 5 stars Does NOT work with Induction!!!
The box it comes in says "compatible with induction cooking." The bottom of the pot says it will work on induction cooktops.

But it WILL NOT.

If you take a magnet to the bottom of the pot (the way one checks if cookware is induction-compatible) it DOES NOT STICK to the bottom of the multipot.

Thus, this pot is useless for induction owners.

It appears that the pasta insert is deep enough to be covered with approximately 4-quarts of water. That is plenty for a large family pasta feast. The reason I rated this 4-stars rather than 5 is that I normally cook thin spaghetti and where I would prefer a 2" solid band around the bottom of the pasta insert (to butt the dry pasta against), there are more draining holes. This means some of the pasta will try to escape through the draining holes, especially if you follow the Fagor cooking directions and place the insert already loaded with dry pasta into the boiling water.

This Chinese manufactured pan was deeply embossed on the underside and indicated the pan may be used for induction cooking. At $21.95, I am going to order several more as (super economy sized) stocking stuffers! :o)

After serious considerations, I decided to purchase Fagor. This is a good quality multipot and served my purpose well. It heats up fast and feels solid. The missing star is due to the design of the lid handle, as previously reviewed by another user. It does get hot and could slip. But I can work around it. After all, it's a good product for its price.

When I purchased this pot, I typed "induction cookware" into the search box. This Fagor, as well as several other much more expensive products, came up. The description said it was suitable for all types of cooktops. None of the reviews said it did not work on an induction cooktop, and I knew Fagor markets residential induction burners, so I thought I was safe. WRONG! When it arrived I removed it from its very beat-up looking box and immediately tested it with a magnet. The magnet didn't stick at all. Still hopeful, I put an inch of water into it, put it onto my induction burner and turned it on. I got the error message and the burner shut off. Obviously it does not contain the requisite iron content. I packed it up and sent it back. (Amazon gave me a full refund including free return shipping.) Then I went to (must I admit it?) Walmart and bought their stainless stockpot, which works just fine for induction cooking.

I got the pots a couple days ago. They look fine. I used it last night to steam asparagus and that was fine except the glass lid has a tiny steel grommet of a hole for steam relief. With the lid fully on the excess steam escapes via that hole which is too small for the size of the pot and steam created and as a result tends to spray water droplets all over your stove top unless you crack the glass lid open slightly. Other than that it is pretty good stuff.

I have used this pot over and over. It not only is great for pasta, it is a steamer for large quantities of vegetables. It can be used as a soup pot as well. It truly is multi-use for people that cook family size portions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Few Shortcomings, But still Usefull!, April 20, 2008

I have used this pot for many dishes with many purposes, but as other reviewer stated the handle on the lid does get very hot and the lid does seem to fit properly which isn't too bad but it has a vent which means that too much steam can escape. Plus the improper fit causes a lot of spattering of hot liquids. Just be careful.

3.0 out of 5 stars fagor 8qt multipot, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Fagor 4-Piece 8-Quart Multipot (Kitchen)
I was excited to receive my Fagor 8qt multipot, which was of high quality 18/10 steel. First impression was quite positive. On first use I noticed that the pasta basket insert did not reach the bottom of the pot, in fact it stopped 2 inches short. Thus that two inches of water was useless when boiling water for pasta. Bottom line, I needed to use about 50% more water to boil the same amount of pasta increasing energy use and the time it took to get the water to boil. I would recommend that anyone wanting to use a pasta insert when boiling water get the 12 quart size which is quite a bit taller and more efficient to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Good looking Pot!, December 15, 2009

I just used my new pot two days ago for the first time - to boil water for pasta. I did not use the pasta strainer for it appeared I had break my long spagetti in two. I will try it with other smaller pasta. I am sure it will be great. I don't cook pasta often, we eat a lot of vegetables and that is why I bought it. I am very eager to steam my veggies in this pot, make veggie stock, or soup. I am glad I have this pot. I can see the potential for it's use - all four parts!

This multi pot is not too tall, not too heavy but easy to clean. It is suitable for a small woman. I use it for streaming and making soup whenever I have a party.
