5.0 out of 5 stars Well built paella pan
I have been looking all over for a reasonably priced but well made larger paella pan. I couldn't find any in the usual department stores and consumer oriented bath and kitchen stores. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not same pan as in the picture!!
The paella pan in the picture has thick handles. If you click on the picture to zoom in you will notice that the picture changes to a different paella pan with thinner handles (look closely) - that's the one I got. The pan in the main picture seems thicker than the one I received. The one I got is not ultra thin but it certainly isn't super sturdy. If I didn't have to pay...

I have been looking all over for a reasonably priced but well made larger paella pan. I couldn't find any in the usual department stores and consumer oriented bath and kitchen stores. I then went to several high end culinary shops and suffered sticker shock at seeing good paella pans mostly in the $100 to $200 range with some priced higher. I searched the internet with only somewhat better pricing. When I saw the Fagor 15 inch paella pan at amazon.com at around $23 I thought I'd give it a try, figuring I'd get a cheap product made out of light metal for that kind of money. Boy, was I surprised when the item came. It is made out of heavy, thick aluminum with a high quality non-stick interior surface. The handles are thick stamped metal rolled to a nice diameter and riveted securely to each side of the pan. Instead of a cheapy pan that would be disposable after a year or two, this pan is built to last.

One thing to note is that the pan is not too deep being about 2 inches from top to bottom. However, this should not be a problem for serving a family with the generous 15 inch diameter. Also, the pan does not come with a cover, a negative for persons who may wish the pan to do double duty as a skillet.

The paella pan comes with a brochure of several paella recipes which provide some neat ideas for variations on the paella theme. I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected quality I received for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect paella pan, February 6, 2007

Just the right size. Not to heavy to lift with a 15 inch paella inside. Makes a perfect paella. Easy to clean up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pan, but ..., February 10, 2008
This review is from: Fagor 15-Inch Paella Pan (Kitchen)
I looked at several paella pans and their reviews before buying this one. Most were inordinately expensive. I have a carbon steel paella pan, but it is just too much hassle to take care of; last time I pulled it out it was completely rusted and unuseable, although I had seasoned it well and it had a protective coat on it. This Fagor pan requires no extra care other than what you would provide any nonstick pan. I have made many, many paellas by now, and the pan has held up well. I have also used it for many other cooking tasks. My only advise is to note that because it is nonstick, it cannot tolerate oven heat in excess of ~450 degress, and no way can it be used in a grill as is called for in a truly authentic paella. I also think the nonstick surface gets in the way of getting a truly authentic crusted bottom. However, for the price, this is a great pan for starters.

This is the only pan that is used in our house now. It is the greatest. Great size, cooks evenly, and no matter what you cook on it or how you burn things, it cleans up with the wipe of a cloth. This is the best pan I have ever owned, at 55 years old nonetheless. I recommend it highly to anybody.

The pan in the main picture seems thicker than the one I received. The one I got is not ultra thin but it certainly isn't super sturdy. If I didn't have to pay for shipping (again) I'd return it.... I guess the people that wrote good reviews got a different [and better] pan than I did. On another note, there are two small circles where the non-stick coating is worn out - as in I can see the metal underneath the coating. The pan doesn't look used, I think it was damaged/scratched before it was packaged. I hope others aren't as unlucky as I was and receive something of better quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pan for the money, January 8, 2012

We had a $50 visa gift card for Christmas 2010, and used it to buy this paella pan, having just returned from Spain. The pan came with a good recipe book, which we've tried multiple recipes from. Ours have turned out very good, not quite authentic, but still quite tasty. Beware the pan is extremely large, so storage and stove-top space can be difficult in a small kitchen. Short of going for a cast-iron pan, this is a great purchase.

Upon receiving this pan, I was quite pleased with the quality. It is very well made. At the time, I noticed the pan seemed a bit shallow, but didn't think too much about that. However, when I used the pan & put it in the oven in front of my dinner guests, some of the contents spilled onto the floor of the oven as the pan was so full. That, however, is my only issue with the pan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nontraditional paella pan, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Fagor 15-Inch Paella Pan (Kitchen)
While this is a fine looking pan and well sized, the nonstick coating is not trustworthy, it easily scratches using conventional utensils and isn't traditionally Spanish. Paella is properlly made in pottery or iron pans.
