Great Pressure cooker: 4 stars because....,
By Deborah D'Amico (Reno, NV USA) - See all my reviews The only quibble I have with it is the fact that parts and accessories are not readily available (as with all other competing brands of pressure cookers.) If you do want parts you must look for them online if they are not stocked in your local store such as Macy's otherwise I would have rated this 5 stars! I am in the Concord, CA area where the product was available but not the gaskets so I had to look online for them. I found out quickly that all parts including extra after cooking lids, the pressure release valve, pressure regulators, safety and handle parts can be purchased along with the backup gaskets from Fagor directly by mail with the insert that comes with the pressure cooker [...] by looking up your model number. If any retailers are reading this, listen up! Your customers want to be able to buy after-market parts, is a gasket and pressure regulator basic enough?

Bring on the Pressure!,

I originally got this pressure cooker because I wanted to do some canning and pressure canning seemed like the safest and most efficient way to do it. I hadn't really thought about using the pressure cooker as a pressure cooker, but just thought that would be a nice bonus.
Well, it turns out that I was completely wrong in how I was going to use this. I haven't canned with it once, but I have been pressure cooking like a maniac. Pressure cooking is one of those things that once you try it you become a convert. I did it the first time because I owned the thing and figured I would give it a shot. The set comes with a nice Walk-though guide on pressure cooking, and quite a selection of recipes to try. I think I did potatoes first and was amazed with the results. This Fagor Pressure Cooker really does cut those cooking times down to nothing. I love oven-roasted potatoes, but I don't always have the hours needed to dedicate to cooking time. Pop `em in the pressure cooker and about ten minutes later you have lovely soft potatoes. Same with some of those cheaper cuts of beef. They are far too tough to eat without spending hours in the oven, or maybe fifty minutes total in the pressure cooker. It is also nice that, as a contained system, the pressure cooker traps in every ounce of flavor and all those lovely vitamins and minerals that might otherwise escape into the ether. There is none of that "microwave taste" that you get from throwing things in the microwave in order to shorten cooking times on your baked potato. After mastering the basics, I have been getting adventurous with my pressure cooker and have done a really nice ox-tail soup. Often I just soften something up in the pressure cooker then finish it in the frying pan or oven to infuse some other flavors. There are plenty of recipe books out there and websites dedicated to helping you get the most out of your pressure cooker, so never fear. Just as a warning, this 10-quart pressure cooker is huge! It takes up a lot of space, and won't actually fit in my sink for washing. I have to be a bit creative with it when I am cleaning it up, but that inconvenience is worth all of the convenience that comes with it. As to why I haven't used it for canning yet as originally intended, I wasn't aware that the pressure cooker needed a special insert to can with. The glass cans need to be raised off of the surface of the cooker. Fagor offers a special Home Canning Kit, as well as a 9 Piece Pressure Canning Set, but I haven't bought those yet. I have been too busy pressure cooking!

The Fagor pressure cooker is a wonderful product. It makes pot roast, beef short ribs, beef or chicken soups in an hour. It's silent, sturdy, and safe. It's better than the Kuhn brand which doesn't have a quick release on the pressure. When the button pops up, you have the 15 pounds of pressure. Then you may hear a little noise telling you to lower the heat on the stove. This is a great kitchen product that will last a lifetime. Since it's all stainless steel, make sure you clean it right after cooking as it's much easier to clean that way. If you wait, it will be harder to clean. But it's much healthier than having a non-stick teflon surface which is unhealthy.
