5.0 out of 5 stars These are seriously good pressure cookers.
I am a self avowed pressure cooker junky. I have about 7 various brands and sizes and I have to say that with this combo of 4 and 8 qt models I'll probably never use any of my other ones again. They are built so well... They reminded me of Iron Clad. Plus they are so much quieter than my older style ones. I wish I had spent the money sooner. And, they are full 15...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not working/defect "PRESSURE VALVE"
Well,

I have used Pressure cookers all my adult live and love them. When it was time to get a new set, I grabbed the opportunity at the special price trough Amazon. Don't get me wrong, the pots are good quality, just on mine, the "PRESSURE VALVE" is not working. With other words it is NOT releasing steam unless manually tempered with. I do cook with the pots...

And, they are full 15 pounders, not the usual 12 lb ones I've had in the past... Big difference.
All I can say is spend the bucks and get the last ones you'll ever want to own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, reliable cookers, March 7, 2009

I've had my 8 qt and 4 qt set for two years, replacing an old Presto aluminum cooker and use it all the time. The 4 qt pot is great for making rice, risotto and other grain recipes. I use the steamer insert in the 8 qt to make (I kid you not) meatloaf and mashed potatoes in 15 minutes. If you are new to pressure cooking you can't go wrong with this set and Lorna Sass' book Pressure Perfect: Two Hour Taste in Twenty Minutes Using Your Pressure Cooker (source of the meatloaf recipes).

If you are used to the jiggle-top pressure cookers, you will notice that there's a valve at the top of this one with some steam coming out and a button that raises to let you know it is on high pressure. It is much quieter than the jiggle top style. I love that it is stainless steel, too. Besides being easier to keep clean, it's much better for cooking any tomato-based sauces, curries, etc.

If you are new to pressure cooking, you will particularly like having this in the summer when you don't want to run the oven. Rice is done with 3 minutes on high pressure and an additional 7 minutes off the stove.

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient 4-quart pot, solid make, December 6, 2009

This review is from: Fagor 2-by-1 Splendid 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set (Kitchen)
I immediately fell in love with this set as soon as I opened the box. It is shining stainless steel, very thick and solid. I have used pressure cooker for 15 years. While my old aluminum one is wearing out and I broke another stainless steel one's handle, I have been looking for a new pressure cooker for 2 years. I have searched many local stores. Most are aluminum, some are hard anodized. They tend to wear out quickly. I was set to get a stainless steel one. Finally I bought this stainless steel set from [...]. Most pressure cookers are deep, good for stew and for cooking meat. This set comes with a 4-quart shallow pot which I could easily think of many things I could do with, like rice, stir fry, pancake,....... And it is easy to clean!

Today I cooked rice, it took only 8 minutes, Rice tastes much better than those made without using pressure cooker.

I would give it a 5 star, but the manual is a little confusing. if you haven't ever used pressure cooker before, it'll be hard for you to make certain what the signs on the safety valves exactly mean and when to use. Figure 8 and 9 are particularly confusing and IMO not accurate. I had to use some deduction, along with my past experience to eventually figure it out.

I do cook with the pots and the food comes out very good, especially like to cook pork and beef BBQ ribs :)
I just have to stick close and ones in a while notch the PRESSURE VALVE and it will release the excess steam/pressure.

I e-mailed customer service at Fagor and told them about the problem, but no response what so ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pressure Cooker Excellence, June 19, 2009

My wife and I have never used a pressure cooker before, but finally tired of spending 45 minutes cooking risotto. Based upon reviews, such as in Cooks Illustrated, we decided to purchase the Fagor cookers. We are not disappointed. The pans are well constructed; the instructions are clear; the use of the pressure cooker certainly does risotto, but also so much more. This set is a very good value for money, and I strongly recommend it for someone who wants to shorten cooking times significantly and retain food taste and nutrition.

This is a great pressure cooker set. This set is different from the Fagor Duo set that comes with two pressure settings. We do not need different pressure settings, so the set is perfect for us. The 8-qt one is big enough for a family of four. The set is beautiful in 18/10 stainless steel. I love them. I have cooked several meals in it without any problem. I highly recommend this pressure cooker set.

This is one of the better pressure cookers on the market and the price is right. You get two pots for the price of one here at Amazon, most other on-line stores charge the same price or more for only a 4 quart or an 8 quart cooker. If you are looking to buy a good pressure cooker and would like the choice of using the four quart or eight quart cooker, you can't go wrong buying this item, in my opinion of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, works like a charm..., March 16, 2009

Works great! Much quieter than my 30-year old Prestige "rocker" pressure cooker.

Initially had some problems with the pressure indicator popping up. It appeared to be stuck and needed a tap to come up. It's working fine now.

The 4 quart pan is great for cooking regular food.

BTW, it says right on the bottom of my pans that they are made in Spain. Don't know what the other reviewer was talking about...

1.0 out of 5 stars product defective; poor customer service, July 28, 2010

This review is from: Fagor 2-by-1 Splendid 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set (Kitchen)
I am very frustrated with the customer service I've been shown. I initially contacted Fagor in March 2010 regarding a problem with my pressure cooker which I had been using for 1 month. I was told that they would replace the handle. More than 3 months later I have nothing. No fixed handle, therefore no pressure cooker. At least someone could have had the courtesy to contact me and let me know that I would not be receiving anything. Instead, when I emailed to inquire as to when the handle would arrive, I was told "next week". It's very hard to believe that Fagor is unable to get a replacement handle. I could have ordered one off the website myself, but I trusted that the company would remedy the situation., as they promised Now I'm stuck because I spent quite a bit of money on a pressure cooker that I thought was high quality, and I've been left with a regular sauce pan for months. How long must this go on?

4.0 out of 5 stars It is made in China but what isn't anymore, not political, just a fact, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Fagor 2-by-1 Splendid 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set (Kitchen)
Overall this product works well. I love the way the food tastes in a PC. Its healthier then the microwave. I have had some issues with it twice when cooling with water even though I only let the water run over one side, and not near the regulator, or the top of the pan. It was probably just too much cold water at once. I had no problem doing this with my old electric presto. The pressure rose so quick to the top sounded like a train with a roar, it expanded out the sides slightly burning my hands. No I didn't have it too full or foods in it that expanded. I now put a trivet in the sink and set it on that, before slowly turning on the water. I use it often using Miss Vickie's recipes. My biggest complaint would be that I find, with most steel from China it is just harder to clean, and it does scratch, I now use wooden spoons. I found this as well with other pans I recently purchased also. When I bought mine it said it was dishwasher safe, but in the manual it said hand wash the lid. I think I read somewhere its the same grade as an ss exhaust pipe on a car/truck. The outside is a pretty shiny polish although keep a dish towel between the lid & the pan to keep it from scratching. My old stainless steel pans of 25 years did not dull or discolor with rainbow colors. Why do these? I don't want to have to use baking soda or anything else to clean it as others have suggested. That defeats the purpose of a quick meal. If it were in my budget I would have purchased Kuhn Rikon only if, it was not made in China. Having the extra small pan is convenient for smaller amounts of food. The extra deep insert is nice feature also. I use the insert when blanching vegetables, its makes it easy to lift all vegs out at once. Its a little hard to tell when the pressure is high enough or regulate on a electric stove. The pop-up button is when to start the timer, even though no steam is coming out of the valve and thats when you turn the temp down. I wish they would make a Stainless Steel electric PC like the old presto's.
