4.0 out of 5 stars Buy This. Now.
In some parallel universe the hip kids try to separate themselves from the Johnny-Come-Latelys by sneering that THEY knew the Fags when they just had an EP. Because in that parallel universe the Fags are gods with a string of hit singles, magazine covers, the inevitable backlash, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Their new CD is much better!
I bought this EP last year and thought it was pretty good, but nowhere near the quality of their Hoarse - "Happens Twice" album from 1997. I just went looking to see if there was a new album out by The Fags and stumbled across their MySpace page. Their new album came out on July 25, 2006, and is available only on iTunes currently. In this universe, unfortunately, none of that's true. But you can still buy a little piece of punked-up power-pop heaven. "Truly, Truly" alone is worth the price of admission. The first time you hear it, you're thrilled because you've found the latest perfect three-and-a-half-minute song. The 100th time you hear it, you're still thrilled.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Tour With Butch Walker Now!, May 17, 2005
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
I saw these guys last night, as an opening act for Butch Walker (Butch even ran out to sing a few lines of a song...cool...), and they knocked me out. Cheap Trick/ Springfield/ Knack straight out rock with GREAT musicianship, songs, and vocals. The CD rocks, but I recommend you see 'em live IMMEDIATELY. It's even better. I bought 4 copies of this just to send to friends, and I can't wait to hear a full-length.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detroit Powerpop, March 11, 2004
By
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
Some of my favorite powerpop bands (The Romantics, Bazooka Jones, The Fags) come from Detroit. In a town that is known for its gritty, rock and roll it's nice to hear something with a bit more hook to it. This is a brilliant CD in the Cheap Trick tradition. Solid songcrafting and good musicianship will keep it firmly planted in your brain.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fags - self-titled (Idol Records) EP, December 1, 2010
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
When I saw these guys open for the long-running Los Angeles bunk band - X several years ago, I thought to myself, this is a band with a future. Liked every one of these five power-packed tunes - like "Truly Truly", "Hitman", the catchy "List" as well as "Ms. Take" and "Reserved". Problem is after the show, band was selling this five track mini-album for $12. That was way over-priced, I thought. Look at these tough-to-resist prices. Myself, I usually don't even mess with EP's or CD singles but this one is to good to pass up.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must buy, May 28, 2005
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
The Fags just wrapped up a may tour as an opening act for Butch Walker. I was at the Raleigh show and was blown away by their talent and stage presence!

This EP is worth the buy. I loved them so much I made an extra trip to see them and Butch in Nashville. You won't regret buying this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A perfect intorduction to the world of Detroit Rock and Roll, September 13, 2004

Hyper Enough (Flint, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
This EP is a great introduction to a band that obviously has the right idea. Singer John Speck and drummer Jimmy Paluzzi teamed up before in a band called Hoarse. Their all-too-short career spawned a few 7 inches and splits, but only 1 full length. Coincidentally, "Happens Twice," still stands up today against any purists who claim that real Rock and Roll is dead. Here, with The Fags, Speck and Paluzzi have teamed up with long time friend and producer Tim Patalan on bass to create a near perfect sound. Equal parts Cheap Trick, Bon Scott era AC/DC, and The Replacements, The Fags are forging territory that no one else has the balls to do at this point. There are no gimmicks (other than the mediocre band name), and no song belongs to any musical trend going on right now. The formula is as old-fashioned as it gets: just write good music. Recently signing a deal with Sire records, and currently in the process of recording their major label debut, The Fags are poised to take over the nation, and I actually think they'll do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality, July 27, 2003

This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
One day I walked into one of the best indie record stores in the Detroit-Metro area (Rockabilly's), and this EP was the featured item. Being a local band, it caught my attention. So I shell out 5 bux.

Now, being less than a fan of most pop and power pop music, I was a bit hesitant when the first few notes of "Truly, Truly" were heard. But i kept on listening. It ended up being really good. Many might think it sounds too generic, too much like more popular bands the White Stripes or any of the alike, and they may be right, but I love this music. It's so great to listen to while driving, and "Ms Take", although it has the stupidest title ever, is definitely my favorite song. The rest of it is very well done, as well, with the songs all having a different enough sound not to blend in with one another. I have a feeling this band will be one of those mainstream acts in the near future, but I'm enjoying them while they're still an indie band, and it feels pretty darn good.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Detroit band evryone will soon be talking about..., May 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fags (Audio CD)
There's been a major buzz around Detroit about these guys since the begining of 2002. All I know is the the hype is REAL!! these guys ROCK!! They could call themselves whatever they want because the music does the talking. The energy of the Who, the hooks of the Beatles in a head on collision w/ the Goo-Goo Dolls!!
