Shack Attack!!!,
By theshape1 (Saint Joseph, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fail on Cue (Audio CD)
First off, I am glad that JCS is still around and making new records. I have enjoyed all of their albums, "Fail On Cue" included. I've read some other reviews where FOC has been described as flat, boring, etc.. While it's nowhere near their greatest album, it's still good fun. But, something is bound to be lost when your bands lineup changes between every album... My personal favorite albums from JCS are "Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope" and "Bring Your Own Stereo". But, I dig all their stuff. I will say, FOC was the most difficult to track down on cd. I eventually caved in and ordered it online. I feel it was well worth the money I paid. It's just a good album. Plain and simple. Check it out!

Of all their music, this is my least favorite title. I liked maybe two songs and would not recommend purchasing (at least at full price).

Fail on Cue isn't exactly a rock classic, but it doesn't suck either.,

The Good
"17" [sample] compares life today to life when you were just a teenager. It's never quite clear if making choices today like you did years ago is a good thing. "Caught Down" has hints of a ska influnce, but still maintains a melodic sheen. "Mutha Luvas" on the other hand is pure ska. Jimi Haha manages to be funny and dead serious at the same time. "The Quiet Ones" mixes acoutic tones with electric riffage. The track fools you into a ballad like state, but as the emotion changes, so does the music. I had quite the chuckle when I heard the opening lyrics to "Making Babies." Jimi doesn't want to be described as alternative or indie (two words I just used above). He goes on to apologize for a lot of musical misgivings and thensome. The Bad Nothing notable The Verdict When a band doesn't take themselves too seriously, can write a catchy tune, and writes about stuff you can relate to; they're alright in my book. Fail on Cue isn't exactly a rock classic, but it doesn't suck either.

Finally another Jimmie's Chicken Shack album,
This review is from: Fail on Cue (Audio CD)
I like Jimmie's Chicken Shack because their not some glam band you see on the music awards or VH1. They travel the east coast in a van playing whatever venues they can, and being a musician myself I appriciate that. This album is good, I liked it the moment I threw it on my IPOD. I don't like every song on the album but its well worth the money and you gotta support the Shack.

What happened?,
By Mr Roboto (Eagan, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fail on Cue (Audio CD)
I have been a fan for quite some time of this band, but, what happened here? I can get over the fact they have gone to a softer sound, but the vocal patterns are awful and don't fit the music and simply put, the songs are boring. I was really looking forward to this, but once I had my first listen, I said aloud "oh no what is this?!" Maybe they've taken too much time between releases, but to say that I am disappointed would be an understatement. If you enjoy it, to each their own, but if you are looking for the old JCS, or better yet, even a good album, save your dollars and look elsewhere.

When a cut below really means a cut above,

It's absolutely hilarious, laughable in fact, that these has-beens who never were are sniping and griping about the fact that other people are having more success, 'So get mickey mouses ass off my raido (what radio), They just pullin up buckets from an empty well, well we can tell ' and 'I should have tried to make some dollars instead I tried to make some peace'.
And what about this 'mutha luvas'? Fred Durst knows how to say it right, that's why Limp Bizkit sell more records than these guys... and it's why I'd much rather listen to 'Chicken Shack'. What's this, an alternative rock band that has a sense of fun? No wonder the corporates have a hard time trying to promote this band. You generally hate what you can't understand. 'Fail on cue' is a rock record that has elements of reggae/ska and is a lot more light-hearted than most of their contemporaries. There's also a bit of whining but it's more tasteful than 'everybody's picking on me, I bash them' etc. No breaking down barriers, and it's hardly genius, but an enjoyable record with good songs throughout. Some Good Chicken!,

This review is from: Fail on Cue (Audio CD)
I have always been a fan of Jimmie's Chicken Shack but after the first listen of this CD I sort of agreed with some of the other reviews regarding the seemingly awkward timing of some of the lyrics. But I listened to the CD a few more times and now I'm hooked. The lyrics that I had first thought were awkward now seem perfectly timed and refreshing.
My favorite tracks are Caught Down, Mutha Lovas, Making Babies, the Fugazi cover Waiting Room, and Radio Song. I am very happy with the Fail On Cue CD. It's good solid rock music and like JCS's prior CD releases it's also just fun to listen to.

Clever, solid return to form for Jimmie's Chicken Shack,
This review is from: Fail On Cue (MP3 Download)
Like most people, I was hooked on Jimmie's Chicken Shack back in the day watching MTV (when they still played videos). A few months ago, I really lucked out and stumbled upon the CD release party/show at Iota in Arlington, VA. That's where I had my first exposure to many of the tracks on this album. The return of Fowl Records brings with it a sense of pride in the handcrafted nature of Fail on Cue. The track "Mutha Luvas" is a big, rock/shuffling F U to a label that has mishandled and mistreated a great, hardworking band while songs like "Radio Song" and "The Quiet Ones" show the band's softer side. Oh, and let's not forget that the album features a great cover of Fugazi's "Waiting Room."

Another Great Album by a Great Band,
By
This review is from: Fail on Cue (Audio CD)
JCS has put out another great and original album. You can really hear the thought and creativity that has been put into the lyrics paired with great instrumentals. Everyone who is a JCS fan will love this CD and if you haven't heard JCS before you won't regret checking out this CD as well as all the others that they have put out.
