While I do think it's great that the failblog community has grown to such proportions as to release photobooks of the site's content, I have to see that a good percentage of the images shown in Fail Harder were ones that I distinctly remember seeing on the website. Without having to pay for. Which automatically means that those who buy this book are most likely going to be ones who mostly want to support the community and the project, rather than those seeking something new.

That being said, I'm someone who heartily approves of supporting the community, so this doesn't seem like a money-making scheme from those who run the site. As much as I'm sure I could find all the images in the book for free online, going through the site's archives would be a pain (albeit an often-hilarious pain), and it's nice to see some of the best of the worst contained in one place.

The images were of high quality and most of them were worth a chuckle, such as a bottle of wine that advertised that it was both "made in France" and "made in Spain," or the sign attached to edutainment software that stated the games were "so much fun they won't even know their learning." Much like the site itself, though, there were a few "failed fails" in here, ones that were obviously posed shots or even obvious Photoshopping jobs. But overall, the quality was good, and it has far more hits than misses.

As said previously, this one is definitely for fans of failblog who want to support the community. Others can probably give it a miss, or else visit the site itself for free versions of what this book contains.

I'm a regular reader of Fail Blog, but I think that may have worked against me in this case. I didn't really enjoy many of the pictures. I'm not entirely sure if I've even seen some of them before because none of them stuck in my mind. I don't really see any reread value and there's not much meat to the book. Frankly, you're better of looking at the actual website if you intend to get some actual laughter out of it.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a small gag gift or a unique coffee table book, this might be a good choice for you.

Pros: better layout than the previous book Fail Nation. This format is landscape instead of portrait, so allows for bigger bictures.
Cons: on every page there is a set of icons that don't seem to make sense and are not related to the pictures at all. I find them confusing... Also, there are no titles on the pictures. On the web page I usually find titles funny, so it would have been cool to include them in the book.

Unlike the other reviewers, I've never heard of the Fail Blog before coming across this book, nor have I checked it out as of the writing of this review. Hence, all of the photographs of the "fails" pictured in these pages were completely new to me. In general I am partial towards the "unintentional" humor, misplaced and awkward signage, and unfortunate yet hilarious accidents, so I really enjoyed going through this book. It provided me with a quite a few chuckles, although not nearly as many LOLs as I would have liked. A few pictures were certainly staged, but I am not too fussy about such things. Each picture has a small sign in the corner that seems to provide an amusing way of visualizing the level of "failness" on the 1-5 scale. They range from mildly embarrassing to downright lethal. I am not sure if I'd exactly use the same criteria or the scale as the authors of this book, but these little signs add to the overall impression of facetiousness.

I really like the layout and design of this book. The landscape format is ideal for presenting photos. The glossy high-quality paper and the hardbound cover add to the overall aesthetic appeal. This would make a great coffee-table or a gag-gift book, as well as great restroom literature.

Sub-titled RIDICULOUS ILLUSTRATIONS OF EPIC FAILS, this 2011 Andrews McMeel offers up 180 color pix from the failblog.org website relating to failure in some form. The result is a slight, hit-and-miss, inexpensive - $12.99 - page-turner.

Sample photographs include:

*a Diabetic Fundraiser ad that offers $1.00 Candy Bars;
*an ad for a George Foreman Baby Roasting Machine;
*a 'Back to School' sign that advertises Trojan condoms for $12.49;
*a display of 'Unbreakable' receptacle covers, one of which is broken;
*a 'We're Here to Serve You' sign that states the store is closed Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday;
*a 'Royal Buffet' road sign that offers '0% Off;'
*a yacht with its name bowplate reading 'Succes;'
and so on.

Depending on your sensibilities, you may find FAIL HARDER a sometimes amusing fluff piece or the scrapings from the bottom of the humor barrel. To my mind, it's an optional purchase but, as always, it's your call, folks.

This book is full of pictures that are guaranteed to provide a few chuckles, but that's about it. Nothing spectacular. Many of the pictures are such poor quality that it is very difficult to spot why the picture made the book. I bought this book for my dad who is a DIY fixer-upper and he found a few of the "failures" to be quite ingenious! In all, this book is good for a few cheap laughs but will not hold its own as a classic, library pride, or even a coffee table centerpiece. It ended up as the toilet reader in about an hour.
