Plot/Storyline: 3 1/2 Stars

I purchased this book because of the intriguing description. I have always enjoyed stories where the Superhero first finds out he has or develops powers and how/why they came to be. My favorite Superman movie was the first one where it shows that he came from another planet and later learns of his superpowers. I also loved the...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Misunderstood Superhero, August 21, 2010

Just as teenager Test Davis delves into a blossoming romance with his long time crush, Nicole, he discovers that he has supernatural abilities. His powers are so intense that he struggles to control them, exploding his life into turmoil, violence and angst with the result that he becomes a fugitive running from the authorities while coming to terms with his powers. Will his romance with Nicole survive? Will he be able to come to terms with his powers and learn to control them? Will the world be able to accept him?

JM Pierce has written an engaging story told by two voices, by Test and by Nicole. Both characters are well fleshed. Test's frustrations and angst left me rooting for him. I felt Nicole's pain as she tried to decide whether to lead a fugitive's life with Test or give him up. The story is far from over and I look forward to the sequel.... Get writing, JM!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner!, January 10, 2012
This review is from: Failing Test (Paperback)
Failing Test transports the reader back to a time of teenage angst and uncertainty. Test Davis struggles with his past while trying to find a way to cope with his place of belongingness during his high school years. During such a tumultuous time, Test not only struggles with who he is, but also with newly discovered "powers" that he lacks the ability to control. Throw in teenage love with all the twists and turns and this book has it all! A must read for those that love this genre!

5.0 out of 5 stars Failing Test a Hit for Me, January 9, 2012
This review is from: Failing Test (Paperback)
Failing Test had me hooked from the very beginning. Because the depths of the characters were developed so well, the emotions experienced by them seemed very real. Once I began to read the book, I found that I could not put it down. This is not normally the genre of book that I read, but I definitely can't wait to read the second in the series and hopefully, there will be more written.

I love reading. However, it takes me a while to start a book. It's like starting a relationship. Is it worth my time? Will I enjoy it? Once it's over, it's almost as saying good-bye to a great friend or realizing I'll never gain that time back. Failing Test pulls you in immediately into Test's world. I couldn't put it down. J.M. Pierce has proven to be an exceptional new author. I'll be waiting and clambering for the books to follow. Grab a blanket, set aside wonderful time, a cup of tea and you'll be good to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars tracy, January 3, 2012

Failing Test by J.M. Pierce was the first book that I have ever read in two days. I am not usually a reader you see I am the
type who reads and the next thing I know I wake up with a crick in my neck. It made me excited about reading. From the first page I was hooked. I could actually felt like I was back in high school :). It was such an easy and exciting read. J.M.'s wonderful descriptions from the scenery around to the awesome powers Test experienced was truly experienced by the reader. I feel that this is a great book for both young and old. I would highly recommend it for all to read as a matter of fact I think I am going to get it back out and start all over again!! Keep up the great work J.M. Pierce you are a very talented writer and look forward to all the others in your future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Original, June 16, 2010
This book was out of my general preference genre. I was intrigued by both the description and the title of the book and the very interesting cover. It was an easy read, and once I passed the first 2 chapters I just wanted to keep going. I found the characters to be interesting and entertaining, however I wanted to know more about the family history of Test and his lineage and how genetically he could have possibly acquired his unusual skills. Perhaps if there is a sequel, it will all become clear. This is a great teen-read for those who have teenagers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Have the kleenex ready..., January 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was a good book especially for the price. If you are looking for a quick read while you are waiting for another book to be realeased, pick this one up. The reason for my 4 stars instead of 5 is that I didn't really get the ending I was hoping for and it my me cry sad tears at the end. We were provided with a basic background in the beginning of Test's parents meeting, but it is obvious that we were not told everything since Test has these abilities that cannot be explained. Slight Spoiler: The story goes like this: guy longs for girl, girl longs for guy, they finally get together, only to be ripped away from each other and probably never to be together again because of his abilities and the fact that he keeps putting the people he loves in danger. It is set up for a sequel, so hopefully our questions will be answered in the next book.

"Failing Test" is a great read! The book is a fast read with many twists and turns that I did not see coming! J.M. Pierce is a talented writer that gets you hooked in a matter or sentences not pages or chapters. I had a hard time finishing the book because I didn't want it end! 5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I have read in a long time!, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Failing Test (Paperback)
I knew right away from the very first chapter that I would not be able to put this book down. I have not read a book this creative or intense in a long time. I can not wait to start reading it when I get home from work. There is not one dull moment in the book, and I can't wait to finish it, I am almost done. I am hoping that there is a sequel, as soon as it is out I will have to read it. This is a very talented author and I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading.
