Product Description

A shattering tale of tragedy and horror from top ten New York Times bestselling author J.A. Jance.

A desperate father′s search for his runaway daughter has led him to the last place he ever expected to find her: backstage at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. But the murders in this dazzling world of make-believe are no longer mere stagecraft, and the blood is all too real. The hunt for his child has plunged former Seattle Homicide Detective J.P. Beaumont into a bone-chilling drama of revenge, greed, and butchery, where innocents are made to suffer in perverse and terrible ways. And many more young lives are at stake, unless he can uncover the villain of the piece before the final, deadly curtain falls.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Predictable, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Failure to Appear (J. P. Beaumont) (Kindle Edition)
I tried to get into this author's work after reading the reviews, but I couldn't find much joy in the pacing, the plot, or the overall quality of her writing. It was similar to playing solitaire on the computer. Time flies but you're not really having much fun. Maybe the author has a computer bot writing these for her now.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Story With Some Good Twists, August 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Failure to Appear (J. P. Beaumont) (Kindle Edition)
Once you get past a certain point, the book is very good. It's Ms. Jance's typical JP Beaumont series book with a few very good twists & surprises thrown in. You'll not figure them out until Ms. Jance decides to let you in on them. It's nicely done, and I like Beaumont the best of her series characters.

To be honest, I almost put it down, had it not been for a Beaumont book. The first 75-100 pages are merely a tale of a dysfunctional family. It takes a while for this thing to get going. The end, as well, could have finished shortly after the antagonist meets a deserving fate. Some epilogue would have worked well. Here, there is no epilogue. Only chapters that continue after the main story is finished. Some is worthy; most is fluff.

The body of this book was strong enough for a good rating. The long beginning is tedious

Its sad to realize how people change; hard to believe that a man and woman who once meant the world to one another can drift apart completely until theyre reduced to being virtual strangers; all but impossible to acknowledge that they can evolve so far from what they once werelovers, sharing their innermost thoughts, dreams, and secretsto alien beings with less than nothing to say to each other. "e;
