Book Description

A 32,000-word novella of brutal suspense by the Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of PRESSURE, DWELLER, and WOLF HUNT.

Rebecca Harpster is frightened of spending the night alone, but she assures her husband Gary that she'll be fine when he goes out camping with his buddies for the weekend. They have a safe little home in the woods of Alaska with an excellent security system. Yeah, she knows she'll spend the entire time jumping at every noise, but she also knows that the danger is all in her head.

By Sunday night, Gary still hasn't returned.

And when somebody shows up at the house, it's not her husband.

At gunpoint, Rebecca learns what has happened. Two men have kidnapped Gary. He went through a weekend of pure hell.

They'll give him back to her, but first, Rebecca has to relive his entire experience, step by horrific step...and survive...

5.0 out of 5 stars GRIPPING SUSPENSE!! January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
FAINT OF HEART by Jeff Strand is in a word "Captivating". This is a very well written story that is intense and horrifying to imagine. Rebecca's husband is gone off camping with his buddies for the weekend, and she's alone in their cabin in Alaska. Come Sunday when he is suppose to return, he doesn't, and it's then her terrifying journey begins. This is a great story packed with thrills, action, and intense suspense. A real on-the-edge-of-your-seat page-turner. Highly recommended...just remember to breath!

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfyingly different February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
One of the best things about the e-reader revolution is that it has done away with the need to "pad" stories. Authors no longer have to take a story that would work wonderfully as a 30-40 thousand word novella and pump it up to a more "publishable" (but diluted) 80-100 thousand.

Faint of Heart is a perfect example. It's exactly as long as it needs to be to serve its purpose and its purpose is butt-kicking.

A lightning fast read that can be comfortably finished in one sitting, the book is filled with action, wit, a small dollop of stomach-churning violence, and a satisfying pay-off.

Faint is both different and familiar. For those who love his work: don't worry, all of Jeff Strand's signature humor and splat-schtick is present although the gore is downplayed to make this more palatable for a general audience. Where this really succeeds, though, is as a gateway read. Crime/thriller fans that are getting their first exposure here will learn what horror fans have known all along: Strand is the man.

At two bucks, this is a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An edge of your seat thriller January 31, 2012
By Jim
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of those books which has to be read in one sitting! Once you discover the underlying plot, there's no hope of putting down the book until you reach the end.

Rebecca's character fleshes out nicely in the beginning as we begin to discover the depth of her fears. It's a safe bet at that point that nothing good is going to come of them, and Strand does not disappoint. The intensity of this story is reminiscent of his novel PRESSURE, one of my favorite of his books to date.

While Jeff is best known for his amazing ability to blend dark humor with horror, you won't find anything amusing about this one. It's pure adrenaline from the get-go.

The book is fast paced and a quick read. The plot is formulaic on a par with a run of the mill "slice and dice" movie.

More About the Author

Jeff Strand was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when he was six months old, so his memories of Baltimore are hazy. He grew up in the cold, where he desperately wanted to be a cartoonist. Then he wanted to make video games. Then he wanted to write movies. Actually, he still wants to do all of those things, but for now he's quite happy writing lots of demented novels.

He was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in 2006, 2008, and 2010. His novel PRESSURE has been optioned for film; he's hoping the movie will be made soon so he can scream "My baby! What have you done to my precious baby?!?"

His novels are usually classified as horror, but they're really all over the place, from comedies to thrillers to drama to, yes, even a fairy tale (FANGBOY).

Because he doesn't do cold weather anymore, he lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two cats.
