Wanda Wood, as narrator, and Charlie Thunderfoot Hewett, as Hiram Obidiah Tate, tell the tale of how these gentle creatures overcame their harrowing beginnings and survived near extinction to become the worldwide phenomenom they are today.
The Tennessee Fainting Goat originated in Tennessee. Sometimes called "nervous" goats“, they possess a genetic condition called Myotonia. Whenever they are startled or excited, their muscles can stiffen, and cause them to faint and fall over. They remain fully awake, but cannot move. After a few moments, they recover, get back up and continue as if nothing happened. This condition is hereditary, but can be bred out if they are mixed with non-Myotonics. Fainting Goats are rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest degree of Myotonia (fainting). This goat is on the list of rare and endangered breeds.
