Mid-tempo on the verge of laid-back psych freakbeat mightily reminiscent of the early Bee Gees in their "Massachusetts" mode. I like Kaleidoscope a lot and thought the arrangements and peformances were very original. The title tune and "Snapdragon" are the tracks to watch. Packaged in a cardboard EZpak case with a very nicely designed booklet.

Kaleidoscope - 'Faintly Blowing' (Repertoire),
By
This review is from: Faintly Blowing (Audio CD)
Short-lived British psych band's 2nd proper release - first came out in 1969. I liked this CD better than I did their first title 'Tangerine Dream' (see my review). Here, you get the lp's initial eleven tracks + an added six bonus cuts. Very nicely done on the CD reissue. Tunes I simply could not get enough of were the tripping title track "Faintly Blowing" (honestly, it's out-of-sight), the should-have-been a hit "Snapdragon", the wonderfully penned "A Story From Tom Blitz", "Black Fjord" and "I'll Kiss You Once". Read somewhere that this stunning record was a complete commercial failure. What's wrong with this picture? Why didn't this much-deserved / highly talented band make it? Highly recommended.

I recently discovered this band and have fell in love with them. Awesome 60's pop psychedelica. If you enjoy good psychedelic flavored pop then you'll love this album.
