5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fite, May 7, 2008

Tim Fite creates a sort of hyper-imaginative Americana-rap blend, and the result is one of those albums that you have to listen to multiple times to start to figure out, yet is enjoyable from the outset. I'd compare him to the group Gnarls Barkley in overall pop creativity. If you want a taste of his style you can probably still get his last album free on his website (also very good).

5.0 out of 5 stars A great edgy medley of quirky folk and indie rock/pop, February 27, 2009

This review is from: Fair Ain't Fair (Audio CD)
Ok, not that I am a big fan either of folk or indie pop, but Tim Fite has created a varied and beautifully balanced opus contrasting childishly simple sounding tunes ("Motorcade") to more dynamic and fuller sounding efforts ("Roots of a Tree", "Trouble"), to pretty guitar ballads (e.g. "Harriet Tubman", "Heavis War", "Thought I Was A Gun"), to straight ahead alt-blues-rock ("My Hands"). Lots of unusual song structures, some fun samples, oodles of catchy tunes. I can't pick out a single, per se, but the disk as a whole is a true gem.

There seems a lot of interesting commentary (social and otherwise) going on underneath the music. I don't particularly have an ear for deciphering this kind of thing; it simply imbues the content with extra dimensionality for me. Cool.

Curiously, his vocals remind much of those of TVotRadio (Tunde Adebimpe). Is this a Brooklyn sound?

Anyway, a wonderful disk!
