A true gem,

I was actually looking for Phil Cunningham's albums, not John's, when I've stumbled upon this. I already had a bunch of fiddle instrumental music CDs, and I thought I had enough. But after listening to the samples available, I've decided to give it a try. Happy I have.
This is my favourite now of all celtic fiddling CDs, amongst John Doherty's, Tommy Poples' and others. Just listen to how beautiful and sad "Archibald Mcdonald of Keppoch" is followed by "Planxty Drew/Planxty Wilkinson" and you'll be blown away. The only weak point of this CD is the liner notes - just very short comments by Cunningham himself on some of the tracks.

What a moving, contagious album! So contagious, in fact, that I am motivated to learn every song on this CD this year in an attempt to approximate even a hint of Cunningham's vibrancy. I just wish I had discovered him earlier.

Excellent CD if you like fiddle or Scottish / Celtic Music,

John Cunningham was a well-known Scottish fiddler. I saw him in concert a few times when he toured with the Celtic Fiddle Festival and as with the rest of the group, his music was amazing and his comments about the music were both informative and side-splittingly hilarious. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago. But his CDs are still available & I would heartily recommend this one -- a solo album -- to anyone who likes fiddle music or traditional Scottish / Celtic music.
