Excellent book on A-10,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fairchild-Republic A/OA-10 Warthog - Warbird Tech Vol. 20 (Paperback)
This is an excellent book that I reccomend to everyone who likes Warthogs. The book shows development of the A-10, and the A-9 competition. Great pics and text to go along with it.

This review is from: Fairchild-Republic A/OA-10 Warthog - Warbird Tech Vol. 20 (Paperback)
Warbird Tech Series provides affordable options to other, more expensive hard cover books on the market. There is plenty of information in the narrative, along with excellent line drawings, 3-D cutaways, b&w photos and four pages of color photos.
Author Dennis Jenkins gives good background on the history of Close Air Support from WW2 to the 1970's when the A-10 was on the drawing board. The text shows why decisions were made - for example, the placing of the engines, the selection of the 30mm cannon and the competition with the Northrop YA-9. The modernization updates of the A-10 are not covered here due to the publishing date. In addition to learning about the plane, diagrams also show the reader how the A-10 is used in attack, descriptions of the weapons carried, the cockpit and even the ejection seat. There are photos of nose art, battle damage caused in Desert Storm and stories from the pilots about "tank plinking". This is a very good book for air enthusiasts, those who want an affordable but thorough book on the A-10, good but not perfect for modelers. The age of the book and the lack of color make it 4 vs. 5 stars.

Really like this book about my favorite aircraft of all time. Really helped me build a scale model of a few of them.

I've read a few books about the A-10 recently and this was the best of the lot. Good use of photos. Good mix of the history and technical aspects of the A-10. If you only want to get one book on the A-10 this would be the one.
