This book is great. I don't think I've ever gone to it and not found the word I was looking for. I wish it had a bit more pictures of some of the fabrics and such. But still, it is very good and there isn't one week that goes by that I don't reference it for one reason or another. I especially like that it offers origins of some textile words which is always interesting and helpful to know.

I highly recommend this dictionary if you work in the fashion or textile industry. I refer to it very regularly and often use it as back-up when writing fabric descriptions in marketing material. The references are up to date and include many branded yarns, manufacturing techniques and fabric finishing terms.

Great Book!!! Just what I was looking for! Anyone getting into the business, new or already in the business, this is a great book to have for references and terms that you don't know! ENJOY!!!

While I have been using this book for many years, it is in need of an update as there are many new textiles on the market since 1996.

Tortora et al have managed to produce the paradigm of textile dictionaries, this updated edition having clear indications of when a term is obsolete and covering every kind of fabric or spinning and weaving term that I have ever heard of and plenty more besides. There are even entries on lace and other trims. I am less interested in the appendix on organisations related to the textile industry but I can see that this would be of interest to others to whom it is more relevant. From the point of view of the historian confronted with unfamiliar names of fabrics having this reference is invaluable. No longer will some of the obscure purchases by the likes of Jane Austen remain a faint mystery. A master work; and has convinced me to purchase the companion work, the Fairchild dictionary of Fashion.

The quickest way to become textile literate is to dive into this dictionary. It is also good to keep next to your favorite books so you do not have to guess at the occasional workday that they do not take the time to elaborate on. 10 minutes into the dictionary and I finally learned that"carbonate" is not some sort of BBQ. Really though professions and avocations require unique terminology of you are going to do it well.

The dictionary has interesting items in the margins such as page 290 there are drafts of regular and irregular satin weaves. There are pictures of reeds and reels. Just about anything that needs a graph to explain is in the margin.

This is a great unique book for all textile related persons, it gives in details the perfect meaning of all the words used in todays textile field. I think this book is must for all textile related persons.
