5.0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful chicken book ever written
This is an amazing book. Anyone who has ever dealt with chickens would be amazed by these pictures. They are portraits (a portrait of a chicken? I would have thought it impossible)of the most amazingly beautiful birds. I just page through the book over and over again, transfixed by the beauty of these little farmyard creatures.

1.0 out of 5 stars Busted at the seams!
This book has great pictures but I had to return it because the pages were falling out. The binding was loose. When Amazon replaced the item. The problem was the same. I will be returnng it this time for a refund. FIX THE BINDING, THE PAGES ARE COMING OUT OF THE BOOK. IT'S BUSTED AT THE SEAMS!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fairest Fowl, December 26, 2001
By A Customer
The Fairest Fowl is a lovely book. It is a delight to see a book which actually presents good birds in good condition to the public. These are not your "run-of-the-mill" chickens, but rather well-bred, high quality birds who are a tribute to "the fancy." As a poultry exhibitor myself, I only wish the book had been more complete in its coverage of all the Classes of poultry (for example, no Langshans or large Cochins) since they are so beautifully presented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feast your eyes, August 11, 2001

This book is simply beautiful. I had no idea these birds were anything more than something to deep fry. But this photographer has shown that there are many beautiful, exotic, and downright strange looking breeds of chicken out there. The pictures have such amazing detail that I see something new on each viewing and the birds really seem to be posing. The essay at the end was interesting too, made me feel like I was there while Ms. Staples shot the photos. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fairest Book!, June 17, 2006
This is a gorgeous book. The pictures are breath taking and as Ira Glass said the birds really do "look" like they have personality. It's amazing. The pictures are clean and crisp and the description pages having interesting information about the birds. This is not a reference book though, it's purely for fun and for admiring.

4.0 out of 5 stars "The Fairest Fowl" ...Great up close photos!, March 31, 2005
I recieved "The Fairest Fowl" is one of my favorite poultry type books because it's classy and informative on certain show breeds.
the pictures are top quality and show every color of the breeds.
They have little color charts for each breed to show color types for their eggs, feathers and such.
I think this book is a great display book for your coffee table! Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars A champion book, June 2, 2003
By A Customer
I was absolutely charmed by this book. The text and beautiful color photos take you into the world of unusual chickens and the people who breed and show them. If you are fond of barnyard animals, you will love this book.

I read a review of this book that said, "Put down the review and go buy this book." With a recommendation like that, I had to see what all the fuss was about: this book is great fun! The photographer has captured the chickens in a way that makes them much more interesting than I thought chickens could be, plus learning about the chicken shows was a stitch! I agree: buy this book! Boatloads of enjoyment for very little investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars great, August 21, 2006
This book has amazing portraits of chickens with some imformation about each one. I wish the author had told us where each breed is from. Also is was not comprehensive of u s chicken breeds, but still an outstanding book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful photography, not a complete chicken guide, September 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is printed on nice paper stock. It is full of many great photos of chickens. There really isn't too many breeds of chicken pictured here, but the originality of the photos makes up for that. Very good pictures of chickens. Personally, I didn't care for the written part by Ira Glass. It was the typical 'make fun of the ignorance of chickens' that makes country people squirm. Otherwise, I enjoyed this book very well.
