4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginner Course
Having no knowledge of the Latin Language, but having a desire to learn without spending large sums of money on a program for a language I might not enjoy, I found this program useful in it's approach to first time speakers of an unfamiliar language. 1.0 out of 5 stars It is just a demo......
A previous reviewer, Murray Jacobs, warned the reader that this is just a demo. He's right, but I had to scan completely through Fairfield Language Technologies to find the real one,.... Seems like false advertising to me. There are a lot cheaper courses available that are very good. Try Traupman's "Conversational Latin....", both book and tape, or the "Learn Latin...

Having no knowledge of the Latin Language, but having a desire to learn without spending large sums of money on a program for a language I might not enjoy, I found this program useful in it's approach to first time speakers of an unfamiliar language. Easy to use and the instant feedback, for those with a microphone, was very useful. Rosetta Stone is the definitive maker of language software, allowing the user to set their own pace. I feel ready to tackle the more in depth programs they offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., December 31, 2001

This program teaches the user things that Latin books lack. For example, you learn the names of shapes, or colors, numbers, articles of clothing; things that you would actually converse about in English, not something like Monachus in monasterio habitat (the monk lives in the monastery). An overall excellent and different look at this beautiful language.

3.0 out of 5 stars not good for Mac OS X users, November 4, 2002

Decent program. It's a nice change from doing paradigms in Wheelock. The only beef I had with it was that it doesn't work in Mac Classic OS 9. I have to restart the machine in OS 9 instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great program..., August 16, 2005
This review is from: Rosetta Stone: Latin Explorer (CD-ROM)
This version only contains the first two lessons from the full version. However, there is more than enough to get you started and give you an understanding of what the more expensive, full blown version is like. My fifth grade daughter and I are using this and love it. I plan to buy the full program once we have exhausted the lessons in this, however I was very reluctant to spend almost two hundred dollars until I was able to use this and find out if it was really worth it. It definitely is a great program! You hear, see and say the words reinforcing everything you learn. It stays with you!

Very easy to use, you'll be on your way to speaking Latin faster than you can realise!!!
I think that the ommission of translation from Latin to English is a positive point, it forces you to think hard and read a good dictionary a lot, which is how you should learn a language!
