Not just for kids!!,
By
This review is from: Fairies: Petal People You Make Yourself (Klutz) (Spiral-bound)
Okay, I'm 30, and I was looking in the childrens' section for books for my friend's kids, and I fell in love with these!! The fairies are so easy to make, and so adorable, that I couldn't resist. And I think it's great that this book was written by a 13-year old girl! Good for her! I just love fairies, unicorns, dragons, etc. and my adult friends have loved getting these as little surprises!

I'm 31. My sister is 34. We're grown ups. But we're hooked! It all started when I found this kit in the bookstore and it looked like fun. Made a few -- it was so easy and super cool. Showed it to my sister, and we made petal people all day. (I ended up buying her her own kit so she could leave mine alone.) I have been scouring the craft shops for silk flowers to support my "habit"! Also tried experimenting with bigger floral wire to make bigger "people". Needless to say, I'm hooked. The instructions are clear, they're easy to make. I've made some with kids, no problem. Each design is unique and you can make them as simple or complex as you like. And making one doesn't take all day -- you can have a 20 minute project or a 2 hour project. I've been decorating gifts with a little "person" -- that's been very well received and it makes the gift stand out in a crowd. A wonderfully creative kit!

HALLELUJAH!!!!,
A Kid's Review

I got this book at the FAO SHUWRAZ toy store at Caesar Palace in Las Vegas yesterday. I'm 12 years old, and I was there for vacation with my friend, brother, and some parents. I got kind of bored, so I walked around and randomly walked to this place on the second floor where they were selling KLutz crafts and books. Then my eyes fell on this book. I immeadiately began to read it. I LOVED IT! The fairies were adorable, and I've loved fairies ever since I was little. I got my mom to buy this for me, and today, I tried to make my first fairy. I thought it was going to be hard, but it turned out great and extremely cute! I recommend this craft for anyone who enjoys creating things and loves fantasy creatures, especially fairies.

I am a girlscout leader, and to earn one of our try-its we made tooth fairy pouches. When I went looking to a small fairy emblem or charm to attach to the pouches I couldn't find anything suitable until I came across this book. It was perfect. I used the book and directions to make a prototype and then I bought extra supplies so that each girl could make her own fairy. They loved it. The first graders needed a great deal of guidance, the second graders needed a little help, but the third graders were very independent with the activity. Therefore I would suggest this kit for a child age 7 or older.

Our least favorite Klutz book,
This review is from: Fairies: Petal People You Make Yourself (Klutz) (Spiral-bound)
Our opinion is the dissenting one, but we really didn't like this kit one bit. In fact, we put it away in frustration last summer, then got it out this summer to try again. Now, my 8-yr-old daughter and I are despising it all over again this year.
Why? (1) The wires that are supposed to make up the fairy legs tend to unravel. Once they do, you can't use them (we're currently waiting for the glue to dry as we tried to glue the covering back to the wire.) (2) The embroidery thread came pre-tangled, saving us the trouble of making our own mess out of it. (3) The gold embroidery thread unravels while you're using it. (4) Not much room for using your imagination . . . you're really just choosing from a very few pre-selected pieces of artificial flowers and a half dozen fuse-bead-sized beads. (5) The bits are small and finicky and require excellent dexterity and vision. (6) There aren't nearly enough flower pieces to make lavish fairies like those pictured on the cover of the book. Finally, after all the frustration and fuss of the dealing with tiny beads, unraveling wire, tangled floss, and skimpy selection of flower pieces etc, the end result is a disappointment. What'cha gonna do with a lumpy, unraveling, glue-globbed, half-dressed mess of a flower fairy?

Excellent for a Fairy Party,

I made these darling littles creatures for my daughters 7th birthday party. I took a picture of each one, then hid each little fairy around my yard. Each child got a photo and had to find their own fairy. It was a great success! My daughter still plays with hers in her dollhouse. Once you have your supplies all set up (I supplemented the supplies in the book with additional pieces from the arts & crafts store), you can make them pretty quickly. My daughter helped, too! Great fun!

So much fun! Easy. We had the kitchen table covered in flower fairies in no time. Then we took apart all the fabric flowers we could find. Then we combed our favorite thrift shop for more. Whew! They just got cuter and cuter. My kids are 9, 11 and 13. Then, we took them to school. Great response there. My 11 year old is a boy (into star wars, gi joe and transformer) and he even got involved. Put them on curtains, hair stuff, party bags. Fun, fun, fun.

My 9 year old daughter absolutely loved this book filled with fairies to make. The end results were beautiful, but the joy she had creating them was what prompted me to write this review. I am now coming back to buy another for a future birthday gift for one of her friends. I can't imagine a child not loving this, unless they are not fond of creative/art projects. A wonderful birthday gift at a very reasonable price.

Fantasticly Fun!,

I love this kit! Well, it's true I like all klutz kits, but this is my favorite I have done. The first time I got this kit I liked it so much I got it again the next year. And this year I got it even again with a Barnes and Nobles giftcard. This is so much fun, and it is very addicting. You can make little flower fairies the way you want to. Create a little body with light or dark bendable material, then make a small shirt with floss or little beads. Built up a skirt with cloth flower petals then make a head with a face or no face, hair or no hair, and a small flower or leaf cap or not. You choose it all. The variations are endless, you could use things from your craft bin or just the kit. This has been a hit with my family and I for years, and if you get it, I bet a million dollars you will like it too.
