4.0 out of 5 stars I do believe in fairies! I do! I do!
Once again, another spectacular book from the bible series. I found this book to be absolutely delightful, if not a bit educational. I have read other books on fairies and actually already knew most of what I found in this book; however, I am still glad to have added it to my collection as it is perfect for loaning out to beginners and for quick reference. 3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Artwork!
I first of all have to say the artwork in this book is simply fantastic! It is put together in an easy to read and informative style, however when I hear the word "bible" about something, I expect there to be everything I need to know about said subject. That being said, I guess I was hoping for more of an encyclopedia. Don't get me wrong, I love the book, I just feel it...

This review is from: The Fairy Bible: The Definitive Guide to the World of Fairies (Paperback)
Though the intent of the text is to teach people how to incorporate the Fair Folk into their lives and work with them as spiritual companions, the bulk of the book is dedicated to fairy lore from various cultures, making it a good read even for people with no interest in contacting the Good People. Overall, the book has a new age, feel good vibe to it with definite Pagan undertones. I liked a lot of the author's ideas for connecting with the fairies, like creating fairy altars, and I think people of any faith can put them to use. The only problem I had, which is why this book gets four stars instead of five, is that the author completely overlooks the dangerous side of the Fae and gives no information about the rules of proper human-fay etiquette. Other than that, this book is a great addition to the library of any fairyphile or fan of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Informative, September 24, 2009
This review is from: The Fairy Bible: The Definitive Guide to the World of Fairies (Paperback)
i recently purchased the Fairy Bible just because it perked my interests. i wasn't expecting much, but once I opened it and flipped though it, i realized it was put together extremely well.

There are sections on all types of the faye- water, earth, fire, house, air, etc. So if you'd like to learn about a certain one, you can just flip to the certain chapter! :)
Not only is it organized well, it's written well. It doesn't speak to you like you're stupid, but it doesn't use words no one understands either. It keeps things interesting.

the entire book is extremely informative, and I learned soooo much! <3

The best thing is you can read a bit every day and learn something new every time you open the book. :D

That being said, I guess I was hoping for more of an encyclopedia. Don't get me wrong, I love the book, I just feel it is lacking in the amount of different types of fairies one can learn about. I would buy it again, but if you're looking for a book filled with as many fairies as you can imagine with descriptions of each one, I'd lean more towards an encyclopedia of sorts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and enchanting, November 3, 2009

This review is from: The Fairy Bible: The Definitive Guide to the World of Fairies (Paperback)
This book is small and thick, and loaded with information from start to finish. My child and 10 year old niece couldn't put it down and were enchanted by the illustrations that encourage the imagination to run wild. There is emphasis on breadth of knowledge rather than depth, covering many types of fairies/ realms, making it a fabulous starting point for anyone interested in exploring the origins of fairies from different cultures, era's, legends and myths. It's light-hearted, although it does cover the light and shadow sides of the elemental/ fairy kingdom. We enjoy this book and refer to it often.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter. She loves the pictures and is interested by the content but has a little too much reading for her taste. She will have to be in the right mood to sit down and really get into it.

What a lovely book this Fairy Bible is. Beautiful pictures of each Fairy with a description and definition for each. Fairies are not always what you think they may be. Find out which ones are sweet and which ones are little mischief makers.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC book!, October 1, 2010

I received this book the other day & have been reading through it. As I looked at the beautiful pictures by Froud and read the content, I was simply thrilled. It's a well thought out book covering everything from a begining introduction to faeries that then progresses through everthing from information on each to how to work with the Elements. I loved the insight used. This book is quickly becoming one of my favorite!

4.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Magical World of the Fair Folk, January 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Fairy Bible: The Definitive Guide to the World of Fairies (Paperback)
I shall start off by saying that I bought this book to stimulate my imagination and teach me about the fairies, of which I knew very little.

When it arrived, it was much smaller than I thought I would be - about a hands length by a hands length. But that was my own fault in not checking the measurements.

This book is neatly organized, divided into sections by the elements the fairies represent - water, air, fire, earth - and house fairies, flower fairies, tree fairies, and weather fairies are also included, which, indeed makes this a comprehensive guide to the Fair Folk.

The meditations and spells at the end of each section were very nice, and made the activities much more like an arts-and-crafts project than a serious ritual, which is very pleasant when dealing with the Fae, as the Goddess does have a sense of humor and enjoys child-like minds.

However, when dealing with the meditations in particular, it was very frustrating, when I was recording them, to know how long to pause, and when. I know this would've taken up a fair amount of room, but it would've been helpful to include "..." or "[longer pause]" as in the exercises in Paganism: An Introduction to Earth- Centered Religions by Joyce and River Higginbotham. Also, another reviewer stated that the meditations are very repetitive in the fact that we are `hurting nature" and ruining the fairy world - in addition to our own. This bothered me only slightly, as we are. However, there was no need to repeat it in almost all of the meditations, as it took my focus away from imagining the world of the Fair Folk and onto ruining the Earth, over and over and over ad nauseam.

In addition to this, it was very religious, and took a direct shot at monotheism, which made it sound like the author had an axe to grind. It is very close-minded to say that ALL monotheism is bad. Christianity gets pretty slammed in this book, so if you are Christian and/or bound to be offended by this, the book (or the topic as a whole) may not be for you.

Nevertheless, the illustrations are gorgeous, really giving you a feel for how each fairy `looks' or manifests itself in material form. I found these images very helpful in stirring my imagination to write about a fictional world of the Fae.

As a whole, some of the stories seem a bit questionable and the facts a bit spacey, but as do many religions and beliefs under the microscope. I believe this book can open you to the world of the Fae, and help you invite them into your world - as friends, not as servants.
