Review

"Imagine a hidden world of flower fairies in your very own garden. Your children will embrace this fantasy when they follow the adventures of four charismatic fairies -- Lily, Daisy, Violet, Nana Rose -- and their garden friends. The crafts that follow each story will spur their creativity as they reenact the stories and create their own adventures."

A Kid's Review on March 6, 2004
Format: Paperback
I like to create craft projects and I think this book is very good. It's not just a how-to craft book but a story and picture book. There is a story about four fairy characters, along with many colorful pictures. Each chapter has fairy crafts to do that go with the story. I made a fairy out of wire, beads, fake feathers and fake butterfly wings for my big sister. The book told me how to make it and the directions were easy to understand. It came out great!

This book makes me wish I had a little girl! We would have the best birthday party!
I teach 5-6 year olds. We studied flowers this fall. We used Heidi's book as part of the imagination phase to our study. The children loved the story that ran throughout the book. The paintings that went with the story were terrific. The story got the children involved and they all wanted to make some of the projects. The directions were easy to follow. All the children, boys and girls, loved making the flower bracelets. This book is a keeper!

I bought this book, along with Sweet Pea's Garden: Special Things to Make and Do ~ A Flower Fairies Friends Book & How to Host a Flower Fairy Tea Party, to help me with my daughter's fairy birthday party. The crafts are exquisite as well as resonably easy to do. Most items can be easily found around the house or your nearest craft store. I love the crafts in both this and Sweet Pea's Garden. Both books are easy to do although I think Sweet Pea works best for our smaller fairies while this book would be perfect for an upscale girls tea party. I loved the little stories and the illustrations that were woven through the book. The only thing that dissapointed me was that there weren't any recipes. If there had been three or four little recipes that would have rounded out the book perfectly. I fell in love with the little cake in the picture of the table setting at the beginning of chapter three. The crafts included invitations, bookmarks, wings, skirts, fairy dolls with a fairy land playground, jewelry, etc. My favorite crafts were the playground and the blooming tableware. Both were made to decorate my daughters table and they were absolutely beautiful. This made for a magical day. Oh, and there are instructions for a Violet Choker by Heidi Boyd at the DIY website.

We used this little book as the basis for a flower fairy birthday party for a six year old, and it was a huge success, and considerably less expensive than renting Little Gym or another insitutional party place.

We made several decorations and the gorgeous flower fairy wands.

All of the projects would probably require adult assistance for a child under 10, but they are really lovely and worth any effort.

I LOVE this book! It not only has excellent directions for some awesome fairy crafts, but is also gets your creative juices flowing. You can take the ideas in the book and run with them. Best of all, you can make most of the crafts with items from around the house or your nearest craft store.

I bought two copies, one for my 9 yr old daughter and one for her friend. They love it and have had the most fun with these creations. I do recommend a little adult help and guidance with the different crafts.

This book had a lot of really wonderful ideas, however, most of the crafts are for older children and my party was for 6 year olds and younger. I made the fairy braclets for the girls myself as it was a little time consuming. For kids 8+ this is a wonderful book with some really cute ideas.

A selection of fairy based projects designed to be undertaken by parent and child (therefore relatively simple).
There's the fairies themselves with their wooden bead heads and artificial flower bodies. Then you can make their playground (pond complete with flowers and a dragonfly) and an enchanted basket to sleep in.
For the little girl wanting a dress up outfit, there's every accessory you could require. And then there's crafts for a party- lanterns, invites etc and even a selection of gifts on the theme.
Would be a useful book when your daughter's on school holidays, keep her occupied for hours!
