DEEP AND POIGNANT READING,
By
This review is from: The Fairy Flag and Other Stories (Paperback)
Jim Savio is a excellent writer who should get more recognition. If you would like to add to your short story collections. You should definately have THE FAIRY FLAG. I hope to read more from this author in the future.

A fantastic, haunting read!,

This review is from: The Fairy Flag and Other Stories (Paperback)
I picked up this thin volume in New York last spring (only because I am inclined to support small, independent publishers)and was quite blown away. Savio's style is nearly arrived, but his voice is fully developed. The stories, while mixed in subject, all bear the kind of savage melancholic imprint I associate with masterpieces of modern remembrance literature, particularly Latin American ones like Fuentes' Distant Relations and Elena Poniatowska's Querido Diego.... Don't get me wrong, the Fairy Flag is it's own thing and you won't find in it a writer who has carefully mimicked anyone. But Savio has managed to strike that rare zone in me that is usually only stirred by scents from my past, old photos, once loved songs, obituaries of ones I knew long ago. Read this book.
