Corney, yet Sweet,

This review is from: Fairy Tale Weddings: Cindy and the Prince\Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
The stories are a bit "hokey", but I enjoyed them anyway. This book contains 2 stories: "Cindy and the Prince" (based on Cinderella) and "Some Kind of Wonderful" (based on Beauty and the Beast.) Both were originally published in the 1980's. In "Cindy and the Prince," Cindy works as a maintenance worker (janitor) at Thorndike Prince's company. They meet at a company party that she crashes. She has to be home by midnight and he searches for her after that. You can guess the rest. In "Some Kind of Wonderful," Judy Lovin's family is about to loose everything if John McFarland calls in their bank note. But he offers a reprieve if she comes to stay with him at his island. Judy's family nickname is "Beauty," and their nickname for John is "Beast." Neither of the stories has very well developed characters, but they are sweet to read, and somewhat realistic. John McFarland, for example, learns that he can't keep his love trapped/captive on his island. He needs to let her go and trust her.

You know when you take your kids to Disney World and they see Snow White or one of the other princesses, and how they talk to your toddler in that squeaky sugary sweet voice and how that seems to tickle your toddler? This narrator Teri Clark Linden chose to read the heroine of this adult book, to adults in that kind of a voice. It has been a long time since I wanted to shake another person that badly so that they would stop what they were doing.
She also felt the need to make the mother-in-law character sound like an over-dramatic Katharine Hepburn. She made every man in this book sound like some kind of a sick weirdo instead of a hero. She is going on my `do not buy this narrator' list.

A pleasure to read,
This review is from: Fairy Tale Weddings: Cindy and the Prince\Some Kind of Wonderful (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book very much. These are fun and lighthearted. Perhaps less mature in style than her more recent books they are never-the-less a pleasant flight of fancy and worth owning.

Eventhough they were written 20 years ago, both stories were imaginative, had complex characters, and full of heartfelt emotion. This is a book that I will hang on to even after I read it. *****

2 sweet stories,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fairy Tale Weddings (Kindle Edition)
This book includes 2 stories:
1) the Cinderella one- this one is extremely sweet, and when I say sweet I mean from start to finish. Pure fairy tale romance. Common, the janitor and the company vice president, only in fairy tales. Even so if your in the mood to be swept away in pure romance bliss, this is you're book. The hero is the most in love man I have ever read about, and the heroine, well obviously in love but thinking she is to low in class for him and there comes the conflict in the book. 2) the beauty and the beast one- this one features a sweet heroine ( she comes from a wealthy family in problems) and the rich beastly hero. He sees her picture and decides to give her family a chance before ruining them, if she comes to his island until he decides he no longer wants her there. This is the story of how she loves the place and overcomes his beastly manners but feels caged non the less. Not so sugar coated as the first story but for that a bit more realistic. I have to say, if you like your books to have some raw sexual tension and passion to be palpable between the characters this is not it. This book is totally PG. Only kisses.

I had read this book several times and enjoyed each time but listening was even better. I heard things that I missed in reading it. I loved the stories and highly recommend it especially if you have read it before. If not then I recommend it for a first time listener. Debbie Macomber always has good stuff.

Have to say another huge disappointment. Normally thoroughly enjoy Debbie M's books. These two stories had characters that were way to sappy to even like. Found myself not wanting to finish either story. Don't waste your time/money. Get some of her newer, better works and enjoy.
