Lo Scarabeo decks are always a treat, and The Fairy Tarots is no exception. This deck follows after "The Gnome Tarots" by the same artist, with the premise being that the Fairies were jealous that the Gnomes had their own Tarot, so they created their own.
The paintings are full of earth-tones, not as bright as once would expect. The Fairies themselves are very "cutesy" but not to the point that it detracts from the deck's practicality. The order of the Major Arcana is more or less traditional, with some titles changed (The Fool becomes The Elf). The Minor Arcana, however, is made up of pen and ink vignettes, looking very Victorian and attractive. The suits are Hearts, Bells, Acorns and Leaves; the court cards become King, Queen, Knight and Knave.
The fact that the deck came with a booklet is a saving grace. The interpretations are in the context of Fairy Society, especially in the Minor Arcana. The story is very delightful and makes me wish Lo Scarabeo would have published a companion book for it. There is also a new spread to be used with the deck.
This is a great deck for people who already have The Gnomes Tarot, or who collect anything Fairy.

This whimsical deck featuring artwork that speaks to the magical child in all of us is one of the most popular decks on the market. The superb artwork by Italian artist, Antonio Lupatelli along with Richard Doyle visually conveys the animated magic of the Fey or Wee Folk. Each card shows a mix of both delicacy and vibrance. Figures are carefully inked and animated with the lines, curves, and colors of nature herself.
The Major Arcana follows the traditional line-up with a few unique variations. For instance, the Number 0 Card, the Fool is presented as The Elf in the Fairy Tarot. As well, Justice is represented as the Dryad, the Wheel of Fortune as the Oread or Spirit of Luck, and Temperance as The Sylph or Spirit of Recovery. The four suits are represented as Acorns (Wands); Hearts (Cups); Bells (Pentacles or Coins) and Leaves (Swords). The Court Cards include: King, Queen, Knight, and Knave (Page).

Published in 1998, the deck includes 78 cards, with 22 Major and 56 Minor Arcana cards. As of 2003, the deck comes in two size formats:

Regular: 2.5 in x 4 5/8 in
Minature- 1 3/4 in x 3 1/8 in

The companion book written in 2004 by Helene and Doris Saltarini is 154 pages, available in paperback. The book provides detailed descriptions of each cards meaning, plus useful and unique tarot spreads. The Oracle of Love, The Astrological Oracle, and the Oracle of Independent Work are a few examples.

The Fairy Tarot is a fun and lovely deck; since fairies are the focus, it is a great deck to tie in with nature and animals. I was only a little disappointed to find the hearts, bells, acorns, and leaves just printed on each card with the fairy drawing instead of incorporated into the actual drawing. I was pleased to find the accompanying booklet! It helps! The meanings vary some since it is a fairy focus. If you are looking for an entertaining, pretty deck, then you will enjoy this one.

This is wonderful: package came in the next 3 days I ordered it. I am very satisfied of the reading. To pay it forward, I'm doing free fairy readings on my facebook to my friends. Whimsical, yet magical, don't be afraid, fairies are all around us. The graphics are wonderful and vivid. It came with a booklet explaining each card. There's 78 cards in total and different suites. The reading consists of 5 cards drawn like that of a pointed star."Under moonlight's mystic veil, find the dream on which we sail, stillness calls you far away, where the nature spirits play." I am a fairy lover.

Had seen this tarot deck around so finally added it to my wishlist. And bailed it out recently. Very happy with it. It's nicely done and will be perfect deck for my granddaughter. Shhhhhh, don't tell!! She's interested in tarot cards and we spend a lot of time looking through some of my collection on her last visit. So when I opened the nice box and looked through the cards with the sweet illustrations I just knew it would be perfect for her. Whether it will be her first and only deck, or the beginning of a collection of her own. But for her age, mid-teens, just the right one, IMO.

I love the Fairy Tarot deck! The art takes one back to childhood - all the conversations with fairies and animals, etc. The size of the cards (4 3/4" X 2 5/8") make shuffling and handling of the deck easy. Learning the substitute symbols was fairly easy and the Major Arcana is beautiful. The small instruction booklet is rather vague on description and meaning of each card, so another source for meanings is recommended. If you can transport yourself and let your imagination take over, this deck will enchant and amuse you.
