4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book
I agree with the first review for this book, "A GOOD SHORT READ". It is better than "The Princess Test" because Rosella doesn't get so lucky with her prince like Laurelei (the heroine of "Princess Test"). I don't think Rosella lets people walk all over her. She's just nice, and has a kind heart. And she DOES stand up for herself in the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hot to Trot, or Not so Hot?
Gail Carson has outdone herself in her previous books including Ella Enchanted, The Two Princesses of Bamarre, and Dave at night, however I believe that writing these fairy tale books falls a little short of outdone. The characters are extremely two-dimentional when obviously the plot could have easily been thickened, and more of a personality could have been added to...

I agree with the first review for this book, "A GOOD SHORT READ". 4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Short Read, June 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
I found this book much better than the Princess Test. I liked the way the plot was twisted so that the good character gets a punishment and the bad character gets a reward, and then everything works out. I didn't like the way Rosella never stood up for herself, she just let herself be bossed around, she didn't seem to have much of a briain until the end and then all of a sudden she starts standing up for herself, I didn't get how that transformation had occured. I still enjoyed the book and look forward to more books by Levine. Read this book if you have about an hour on your hands with nothing to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story, October 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
My third grader has read every book in this series, plus the few independent books this author has read. The stories are witty and poignant, and beg to be read over and over. Girls of any age would enjoy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fairy's Mistake, January 17, 2000

I found The Fairy's Mistake to be a wonderful fairy tale. This book displays "girl power" and is great for girls-young women, although my whole family enjoyed this book. This book is a short, sweet, and great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bugs to gem what would you choose ?, April 19, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
Do you have gems falling out of your mouth? Well Rosella does in The Fairy's Mistake! But here is the catch, her sister has nasty beetles, bugs & snakes coming from her mouth. Here is a fiction story by Gail Carson Levine if you like reading about Fiction stories & princesses you would loovvveeee this book.

While Rosella was out picking peas in the Village of Biddle her sister was at home singing and felt a funny feeling. Soon enough she had gems falling from her mouth. One day she was in her garden and Prince Harold asked her to marry him. They did and lived happy after. Unfortunately her sister Myrtle had started to get bugs falling out of her mouth and was mad at Rosella. Here are some books that are similar to this one. The Princess Test, Ella Enchanted, The Two Princesses of Banarre, The Wish, Princess Sonora & the Glass Hill, Fairy's Return, For Biddle Snake, Cinderella. I think the main idea is to teach the reader to not be greedy but be kind and thoughtful.

One strong point is that the Princess Tale Series all connects. A weak point is that there should have been some action in the end. I recommend this book to my friends & family. It is a great book but also a great series. How would you feel if you had gems falling out of your mouth every second you tried to talk!!

4.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Not a Mistake, August 6, 2003
This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
With cute humour and plenty of magic,Levine tells the tale of 2 sisters, one nice, one selfish.A well-meaning fairy gives the nice sis a 'gift'....She will spew diamonds from her mouth every time she speaks. But this so-called blessing causes everyone to take advantage! The nasty sister is 'punished' by being enchanted to spew out insects every time she speaks(it's a good book, honestly.)But her punishment turns into something she enjoys as she uses it to her own advantage to terrorize others. It's actually not a gross book,My review is grosser than the book.It is a charming read as is The Princess Test.

If you liked Ella Enchanted you'll love this book! It is about how bad it is to be under a spell. I really enjoyed this book. It has two morals the first wne is if your good to people you will get rewarded. The second moral is think befor you act

The characters are extremely two-dimentional when obviously the plot could have easily been thickened, and more of a personality could have been added to Rosella, Pickering, Myrtle, and even Prince Harold. As her previous work shows, she is capable of more and better. I found it too easy and a tad too boring. Please pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite "Mistake", August 9, 2002
This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
Another in the fun and fanciful line of "The Princess Tales," this adaptation of the old tale "Diamonds and Toads" is more upbeat and cunning than the original but still stays true to much of the original story. "The Fairy's Mistake" shows us what happens when a fairy grants the kind sister with a 'good' gift (gemstones appear from her mouth) and the cruel sister with a 'bad' gift (frogs, spiders and other critters crawl out of her mouth) -- and the good intentions go awry. Quick read for all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars engaging literature for young minds, June 1, 2011

This review is from: The Fairy's Mistake (Princess Tales) (Hardcover)
I am reviewing this on behalf of my daughter, and as my perspective of what engaging literacy might be. The book had arrived in the afternoon, and when I got home in the evening - it was nearly completely digested. She was able to explain the journeys, the relationships, and was able to anticipate the "mistake". Not sure if this is correct, but she was thinking, and thinking deeply.

I see the book as a success, therefore. If it can grab a young mind, offer a literary journey, and provoke thought - why not.

My daughter reads a lot, so I feel is a strong reader for her age. She is 9 so enjoys such genres of literature. So, judge accordingly. For such an audience I think it will work, and if not, very little lost.
