Winard Harper - super jazz cat of da drumz !!, November 3, 2004

'Faith' A very good tight solid hard bop band that has six virtuosos playing with some of the greatest hard bop arrangements I've heard in years!! My favorite song is the title track 'faith', where the polyrhythmic sounds and the driving melody of the horns are harmonius, jazzy, funky, and all around bad a$$!! His sextet is unbelievable!!
Abdou Mboup and Winard Harper rhythms will blow your mind live!!
I can really feel their vibe!!
Patrick Rickman, Brian Horton, George Cables and Wycliffe Gordon are all playing different percussion instruments with all kinds of African rhythmic sounds.
It is a shame that this band doesn't get the support they deserve!! Look up their website, find out when they are close by, then see them play and be dazzled!! (other great live shows: go see Joao Bosco, James Moody, Marta Topferova!!)
I highly recommended Winard Harper's music to fans of Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Horace Silver, and Medeski Martin And Wood.
