Perspectives on Faith Development,
By Freysson "freysson" (McDonough, Ga USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faith Development and Fowler (Paperback)
This is a collection of papers responding to the owrks of Fowler from the differing perspectives of various scholars in several different fields. Some are better than others and severeal seem to miss the point of his work. All give insights into how this field is seen by those in simalar fields and to distortions that come from those with a somewhat rigid viewpoint as they are called on to respond to his work. While Fowler has a chance to respond to the contributors and critques, I would have liked to see more on this point. It seems to me that one point that seems to be in contention is whether the stages of development are simply observed or a constructed schema. Fowler seems to indicate that they are observed but several of the contributors here seem to contest this point and I would have liked to see more response from Fowler here.Overall the book is well worth the read and will enhance your understanding of the implications of Folwer's work. It is however not for those without grounding in his theory and in psychological development in general. |
