5.0 out of 5 stars Matches The Hype
I am not an Avalon fan. However, my wife went on and on about the Faith Hymns CD, and I must say, she was totally right. I usually will buy a CD if it has 3 quality cuts. This one has about 7 which I cannot stop listening to. Her favorites are Amazing Grace and I'll Fly Away, mine is How Great Thou Art. But wait, I forgot It Is Well, and Joyful, Joyful, and Total...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as I had expected
I don't wanna deceive Avalon fans but this rendition to the hymns isn't that great, or should I say "out of common".. Even tough it arrived home broken, I had a listen to it, and it didn't grab me as other Avalon projects did in the past. Am not gonna say that it's awful tough but they sure could've done it much better. Maybe I'm wrong, some may like this album, depends...

Only GLAD's from 1993 was equally comparable. Several of these discs from Avalon will be under my Christmas tree this winter. The final Bonus Cut of For Freedom is not to be missed, either. Wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avalon has done it again! by BJ, March 8, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
I think I've written a review for almost every Avalon album, including Jody's solo CD. On every one of these reviews, I've told you about how phenomenal this quartet is. With this release, they step it up one notch higher! Their voices and harmonies are spectacular. Every song is terrific, ESPECIALLY tracks 2-8, 12, and 13. The only disappointment for me on this album was "How Great Thou Art", which was hard to sing to at first because of the different arrangement. Greg's breathy voice on this didn't help, either. I like his voice on all the other songs, but this one just didn't work for me.
I was overjoyed when I found "For Freedom", the bonus track, on the album. I had heard it before on my local radio station near May of 2006. I remember the DJ saying: "And stay tuned this hour for a brand new single from Avalon" and I was so happy! (Of course, I'm mad at my radio station because it's now March 2007 and they STILL have not debuted "Orphans Of God" from "Stand" yet!) Anyway, "For Freedom" is a definite highlight and will beg for tears every time it is listened to.
Overall, this album ROCKS!! Avalonians and other people alike will enjoy this collection of timeless hymns sung by one of today's top Christian artists! :-) [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah!!, March 23, 2007
This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
I usually do not write reviews, I'm usually the one who reads them. But this CD is definitely worth writing a review on. This is THE BEST Avalon CD made. It is a worship CD. It is fall on your face, worship music with some praise in between. If you don't have this CD you need to get it now...go get it...what are you waiting for??:)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Collection of Hymns, November 23, 2006
This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
This is another wonderful cd from Avalon. I love the arrangements of In Christ Alone (which is my favorite hymn), Amazing Grace, and How Great Thou Art. This is definately on my Christmas list for this year. Another great release from Avalon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great album by Avalon, October 18, 2006

This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
It's really a great album by Avalon, as all their previous ones, but this one has a really great selection of classical Hymn that I've loved for a long time. I love their talented rendering of them allot though, definitely a CD I'll encourage other to get.
'Great is thy faithfulness', my favorite hymn, was particularly well done on 'Faith,' but I expected no less from Avalon. All the hymns they chose are beautiful, you can't do anything else but love them

5.0 out of 5 stars On Fire!, October 18, 2006
This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
Avalon has done it again! With each CD they just keep getting better and better. All of the hymns on this album sound great, just like their voices. This is a great CD for hymn lovers and Avalon fans alike. My favorite hymn, The Solid Rock, sounded especially awesome, although I'd expect no less from Avalon. This CD will minister to your heart! And, since they are doing hymns, the lyrics are awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avalon Sings Hymns: What I Expected, And Done Well., July 19, 2007
This review is from: Faith: A Hymns Collection (Audio CD)
When I learned Avalon had a hymns project, I expected several hymns, done with excellent harmonies and contemporary arrangements. If this is what you want, this is what you'll get.

A couple of highlights was the acoustic guitar on "How Great Thou Art", and the excellent aca pella version of "Holy, Holy, Holy". The latter served as an introduction to "Blessed Assurance", and only was the first verse: I definitely wanted to hear more of "Holy, Holy, Holy", though most renditions do seem to find a way to avoid the wonderful third verse.

Another slight gripe is that the final two selections were not really hymns. They were not out of place stylistically, but I would not have put them on a hymn project. Is this a reason to avoid the whole project? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars They just keep topping themselves!!, January 18, 2007
By

Ok so i bought "Stand" and wrote a review on it and said it was the best Avalon album yet..but after buying "Faith: A Hymns Collection" they have once again, topped themselves. Now being an Avalon fan, they really do no wrong in my eyes anyway...but i'm telling ya folks, they are untouchable on this one. I was really excited to hear this album when i found out they were recording it because i was really excited to hear their versions of classic songs. To me, i wouldn't have been interested in a hymns album that stuck strictly to the original arrangements. I hear those every sunday in church and wanted to hear them change it up, and that they did. Many of my favorite hymns are on here and there is not a single song i don't like. I had actually never heard "In Christ Alone" before or "Total Praise", both of which have become some of my favs on the album. Each song showcases the incredible vocal ability of each of member. One of my other favs on here was the bonus track, "For Freedom". I acutally do not have any members of my family serving in the armed forces, but this song still brought me to tears. The vocal arrangements combined with the orchestration make a beautiful song. So yeah, if you like Avalon at all, you need to pick this one up. You will not be disappointed. And if you never have listened to them, go on and pick it up and get your feet wet, you'll love them!!!!

What a performance. With this album, Avalon has taken such classic songs such as "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee", and "In Christ Alone", and brought true life to them. This album is truley thouching, beautiful, and inspiring. Avalon does an amazing interpretation of my favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace", with still sticking to its powerful yet soft roots. This is an excellent album, and highly recommended to add to your collection.
