This book is a tough read! I needed it for a class at school and was surprised at the difficulty. But after working past that and getting to know the book's style, it got a lot easier. Lots of big words, keep a dictionary or a computer with internet access by to look up words. The book is very informative, going a good job to accurately paint the religion of the Old Testament Israelites. It goes book by book to explain what the books taught the Hebrews, where they developed their theology out of the books, and how they viewed what they learned. Overall, I recommend it to anyone studying the Old Testament from the perspective of the Israelites.

Dumbrell's characteristic thesis is the continuity of a single covenant from Adam through its various expressions to culminate in Christ. He sees the covenants with Noah, Abraham, Moses, and ultimately through Christ as progressive rather than new. Although his views are considered as slightly offbeat by many more mainstream scholars, they are frequently quoted in introductory texts as an interesting variation rather than as erroneous.Altogether a very worthwhile read that could broaden your perspective.
