Absolutely BRILLIANT!!,

After playing Shane's first album over and over (and over!!! Yes, I played it THAT much!!) and waiting for the new album I really started to think that it would be hard to beat his first solo album. I'm not sure that he has bettered it but he sure has equaled it!
His songwriting is as awesome as his vocals are. He just nails it every time.

Crowded House, Anyone?,

This is the CD Neil Finn should have made rather than regrouping Crowded House (one of my favorite bands of all time) and recording "Time on Earth". "Faith & Science" is the sophomore release from acclaimed Australian singer/songwriter Shane Nicholson and comes on the heels of Shane's debut, "It's A Movie," which earned year-end best-of honors at USA Today, Billboard, & XM Satellite Radio back in 2004. I'd encourage any Crowded House/Neil Finn fan to RUN and find these CD's. They will not disappoint. And, "Faith & Science" is at least not the song-by-song run-through of morose, similarly paced, bland ode to Paul Hester's suicide CD Crowded House's "Time on Earth" became. And for any Crowded House fan reading this review, don't bother voting that it's a bad review because I wasn't satisfied with "Time on Earth". Were you? As for "Faith & Science", it's a CD (like its predecessor) that offers up some VERY similar sounding music somewhere between Neil Finn's first and second solo efforts. And Shane's voice can sound eerily close to Neil's at times. Every friend I have recommended this CD to has rated it a solid 5 stars. Check it out. Time on Earth

This is a particularly well-crafted, well performed, well produced and mixed recording.
The songwriting is well crafted, both musically and lyrically. The guy writes really thoughtful lyrics and great changes. The engineering, production and mix is all superb. You will listen to this recording many times. |
