1.0 out of 5 stars Faith that fails
Smith Wigglesworth is somewhat of a legend in Pentecostal circles. A friend of mine lent me a copy of "Faith That Prevails" in the hope that I too might come to respect the man. To say that I was unimpressed would be an understatement.

The work of the Holy Ghost through Smith Wigglesworth prove that miracles are for today. His vivid descriptions of the Lord Jesus' work in healing, delivering, and even raising his wife from the dead confirm my own belif in
miracles. This book is a firsthand account of what actually happened in
Wigglesworth's life and was very encouraging to me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., November 7, 2006
This review is from: Faith That Prevails (Paperback)
Wonderful book. It helped me understand Faith better. Now, I just have to apply the principles and watch God do what HE does best, show forth HIS goodness, mercy and kindess, and most of all love. I encourage all Christians to read this.

One can read this is in one or two sessions. It is a quick read. I think that there are more inspirational books out there. But, it provides some inspiration.

This book is outstanding!! I had trouble putting it down. It's written in a plain and simple style and it is fantastic. It's a short book, so if you've got a short span of time (or attention), then this book is for you! I really enjoyed it and it makes a great complement to any gift.

Smith Wigglesworth is somewhat of a legend in Pentecostal circles. A friend of mine lent me a copy of "Faith That Prevails" in the hope that I too might come to respect the man. To say that I was unimpressed would be an understatement.

Wigglesworth's successive claims take a similar form: he describes a 'case' where an individual has a particular illness, he applies some principle he claims to be biblical in nature, and finally asserts that as a result of 'biblical faith' the individual is cured of their illness. No medical evidence is cited. No independent observers are quoted. We are expected to believe that these events occurred solely upon Wigglesworth's say so.

I could detail his poor understanding of scripture, his exaggerations and one implausible anecdote after another. Space constraints aside, it would do no good. Those that want to place their 'faith' in Wigglesworth will come away with a powerful reinforcement of their pre-existing beliefs. Those that respect the truth so highly that they demand spectacular evidence in support of spectacular claims will come away feeling insulted.

(I read approximately half of the book before giving up.)
