Well done,

I do think this little book picks up some of the contemporary songs and adds a quality to some of the old ones that make it worthwhile to purchase. I bought it cheaper here that through the Cokesbury sale!

Melody but no Chord Symbols,

I play for a local Methodist Church and we use this and the Hymnal. The Pew Edition has words and melody, but no chord symbols - but the songs take less pages than in the Accompianment Edition. The songs, like in the UMC hymnal, are organized by topic - they seem a good selection of 80's-90's praise music, with some older hymns and such thrown in.
Instrumentalists might want to check out the Simplified Version - it's spiral bound with vocals, chords and accompianment for keyboard players...the Accompianment Edition is too big to fit inside the piano bench. The Faith We Sing: Simplified (Faith We Sing)

This is a good companion to the United Methodist Hymnal, and also to many other hymnals!! There are more modern songs in it, and a lot of old standards, but on the whole, a more upbeat music. You can also purchase the soundtracks if your church doesn't have a musician. Perfect for a small church or even a larger one. (there is also a cd available with the lyrics in powerpoint for projection)

Too Modern,

Perhaps it's that my congregation is small and used to the traditional church music. They have a hard time with most of the hymns in The Faith We Sing because they are new and unknown. As accompanist, I have a hard time with the chord arpeggios; and the mis-match between the pianist edition and the pew edition. It sounds more like piano bar music than sacred.

The Methodist Hymn book series called "The Faith We Sing" is
simply styled. This copy is lustre black, with "aged" looking pages. They also produce a green covered book, a spiral bound accompanist book [for the piano player] and sets of books.. All available through Amazon at reasonable prices. Please remember this is a pew edition, with the melody line only,-treble clef, no bass line -bass clef and no guitar chords.Words only, with the melody line. This book is pleasing to the eye and should be viewed as non-denominational. Just for the pure fun of it all. Coca-Cola surely does not hold the right to "teach the world to sing". Perhaps all denominations should form a coalition to boycott childish statements from the corporate world. Here is a good place to start. The Faith We Sing.
