The Convergence of Competence and Passion,
By
This review is from: Faith and Wealth: A History of Early Christian Ideas on the Origin, Significance and Use of Money (Paperback)
When an author and historian as prolific and accomplished as Gonzalez turns his attention to the historical theology of a doctrine he is particularly passionate about, the result is a remarkable work. Faith and wealth proceeds systematically and insightfully through the reflections of all the major document of early Christianity on the topics of wealth and the poor. He frames this discussion with a helpful discussion of Greek and Roman thought and some of his own reflections. The text is rigorous and readable - by far the best on the topic of several I surveyed.

Justo González is perhaps the preeminent church historian alive and his treatment of faith and wealth is not so much a thesis as a history through a finance lens.
