About the Author

Author of action packed novels and short stories, Basil's stories have been called "Pulse Pounding" and "Breathtaking". Give them a read and judge for yourself. Basil does not just write stories, but has lived a lot of what they contain. The backdrop for his writing started with his birth in rural interior Alaska and his school years among the Ohio cornfields where he wished to be anywhere else as long as it was exciting. He has lived in Alaska, San Diego, DC, Baltimore, and Ohio. He tried a career in the Marines. After injuries sent him home early he worked at the NSA, owned a computer shop, was a carpenter, farmer, actor, lumberjack, voice actor, EMT, network admin, helpdesk supervisor, Boy Scout leader, IT trainer, radio talk host, youth minister, and was a sergeant in the Alaska Defense Force Coastal Scouts. Until a ski injury in 2008 he had been an avid weight lifter and could bench press 420 lbs. Now he's limited to a bit on the eliptical machine each day and hefting his laptop and an occasional pint of Guinness. He lives in Anchorage Alaska with his wife and sons

1.0 out of 5 stars never bought into it September 1, 2012
By ilbob
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I tend to like this kind of story, but as I have mentioned previously, I have to believe that the events being depicted are at least remotely possible.

This one is full of one unbelievable thing after another. Just a brief synopsis.

A Marine goes into the reserves and becomes a pastor while as a side job he stays in the reserves and is called up to go out and operate as an assassin during his 2 days a month and 2 weeks a year training time. Really?

The basic goofy premise ought to tell you how believable the story is. But just so you get a gist of how far out there it is the pastor's wife and family is murdered by a gang member who coincidentally is somehow connected with a terrorist who tortured him a number of years ago.

It is fiction so I can deal with a few things that are way out there, but a continuous dose of them gets a book one star from me and I quit reading it. That is what happened to this book.

As tends to be the case with self published authors, there are several highly suspicious 5 star reviews, but there are also a number of what appear to be legit 4 and 5 star reviews for the book.

I got this one and another book by the same author 65 Below for free. I went to the trouble to download them based on the good reviews both had, and the premise of both books that had a lot of potential.

I know some very mediocre authors have a fair number of legitimate fans that like their stuff, but I am just not a fan of this author. Maybe they are just good at promoting the book to a crowd that likes their style of book. I don't know. Neither book did anything for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, but better editing needed. April 7, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this story. I won't bother telling what the story is about since it's already covered in the other reviews and in the book's description. I will say that the action is very riveting and intense and the good characters are very likeable. It's a nice change to read a book that is not full of vulgar language and sexual activity, but is still full of action, danger, and adventure.

My only problem with the book is the abundance of misspellings throughout; especially in the beginning. The middle of the book has much fewer errors for some reason, but then there are a few obvious errors in the last part. I wonder if it's just the way Kindle books are digitized. I would love to be a Kindle book proofreader.

Overall, I would definitely seek out more books written by Basil Sands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reverend Mike, USMC Retired, makes for good reading June 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Reverend Mike Farris' congregation had no idea that their pastor used to be a Special Ops Marine. He had given all of that up when he married his wife, Janelle, and their son 'Mini-Mike' came along. When his street ministry encroaches on the territory of local gang leader, Cold Bones, Farris' wife, son and two close friends are gunned down in his front yard. With the help of some old, and new, military buddies, Mike hunts down Cold Bones and finds he is doing business with a terrorist named Usein. The reader is taken on a fast paced ride as Farris' and his buddies/colleagues race against time to foil a terrorist plot to detonate a nuclear bomb in Ohio.

I'm not a fan of military or espionage stories at all, but I would recommend this book to any grown-up who wants a good edge-of-your-seat thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic January 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it.
I finished this book in 2 days, and thats only because I was made to put it down on day 1.
The action is almost non-stop. While still caught in the standard ex-military / secret agent genre (which I admittedly enjoy) I think almost any reader that enjoys fast paced action would enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Faith Warrior Faithful Reader September 22, 2011
Format:Paperback
I finished this book late at night so I had to wait to post my review. First, I won copy of this book from the Goodreads Giveaway, but, that doesnt influence how I felt about the book. Second, I am not a professional book reviewer and this review will prove that out.

I really enjoyed this book!! I barely sat down to start reading and the action took off right away. Captain Mike Ferris gets captured in Somalia trying to evacuate medical workers, endures being tortured, and eventually rescued. He then becomes a priest where his family is murdered by someone in his past, which leads to his pursuit for justice or quite possibly revenge, but national security will have to be upheld as well.

As I was reading I was wondering if there were more books to follow about Father Mike and could definately see that happening. I enjoyed the other charaters that were crucial to this story. I liked this story so much that after about 100 pages I decided to purchase 65 Below by the author and it appears that will allow me to get to further know a character from this book. I would recommend Faithful Warrior to anyone that likes a good thriller with a military and political twist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great one from Basil Sands October 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
I read lots of stuff from tons of great authors...Tom Clancy, Steven King, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, Brian Keene, Jeremy Robinson, Scott Sigler...and many others. Basil Sands is definitely one of the best. Faithful Warrior is a fantastic story, with fantastic character development. I loved the fact that he put in characters from his other stories in this one. When you see their names (if you've read/listened to the other books), it's like seeing an old friend. I am not a Christian, but I like the way Basil is able to convey the religious beliefs of the main character without being preachy about it. I didn't feel like I was trying to be converted, or anything like that.

If you like military action/thriller along the lines of Tom Clancy, then you'll love anything by Basil Sands. Every time he comes out with something new, I get it right away without hesitation. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
