5.0 out of 5 stars Marianne goes Nashville, February 10, 2006
This review is from: Faithless (Audio CD)
This album was first released in 1977 as Dreaming My Dreams and then reissued as Faithless the following year. It's a pure country album where the despairing cracked voice of Broken English was first displayed. And it's a brilliant album, very good selection of material. Virtually every track is hit single material, from Dreaming My Dreams (a sad ballad), Jackie DeShannon's lilting Vanilla Olay, the energetic All I Wanna Do In Life and Jessie Colter's sorrowful I'm Not Lisa. Barry Reynolds, who always inspires her best work (like on Vagabond Ways), wrote or co-wrote 4 of the songs here. My fave track of all is That Was The Day (Nashville), a wonderful weepie that e.g. Dolly Parton could never sing [... that was the day/When the coke came to Nashville/That was the day/I laughed till I cried/That was the day/All my dreams turned to ashes/Aint it funny, after all I've survived."] Faithfull fans who are not prejudiced against country music, and all country music fans will love this.
