5.0 out of 5 stars Fake is VERY Real!, June 25, 2004

Blow Up Hollywood: Fake
Release Date: June 25, 2004
Time: 42:15
Tracks: 10

Blow Up Hollywood's brilliant first album dealt with death and what
awaits us on the other side. The new album, entitled "Fake" offers us a
glimpse of life- through the eyes of a dying relationship. A relationship that both parties know is finished, yet neither wish to let go of. The band have managed to do that which seldom happens; release a second album with the same level of emotion and precision as the first, while bringing a different aspect to the listener.

Musically, this album spotlights a maturity in arrangements that were
fledgling ideas on the first album. The line-up is the same and as
before offers no indication to the band members or equipment.

If this brief overview of the new album sounds like Blow Up Hollywood
have gone soft, think again. Like the brilliant first album, this
album carries the same stark imagery that impressed me, and many a
listener two years ago.

For the Blow Up Hollywood novice, I would have to say this album will
definitely suit fans of "Stupid Dream" era Porcupine Tree and Pineapple
Thief. Be warned however, you won't be listening to a watered down
clone of these two fine groups, rather a new band whose unique sound
should find a way to your heart and mind.

As before, take the trip with Blow Up Hollywood. Fake is very
real............

Thanks for your time,

Lew Fisher

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Beautiful Journey, July 5, 2004
This review is from: Fake (Audio CD)
The first BUH album dealt with the concept of life and death, Fake deals with everyday life's ups and downs. BUH features a full band including acoustic guitars, strings and a great vocalist and would be great for fans of acoustic PFloyd, acoustic Opeth, Porcupine Tree but BUH have their own unique untouchable sound. There is so much emotion in this music that it is overwhelming and not just music but a life experience. The album includes mostly vocal songs with a few great instrumentals that seem to take each song to the next level. When I first heard the tune NDE and the great chorus of "I don't want to come down", it was breathaking and an example of how BUH can also sound progressive as well as modern/alternative. This song should be a radio staple. BUH has to heard to appreciate the beauty and sounds of life. A definate top album for 2004!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blow Up Hollywood brings Drama to Sound, June 25, 2004
This review is from: Fake (Audio CD)
Fake is the second album by Blow Up Hollywood. The kind of group that tries to tell stories in a way that go beyond their corporeal existance. They tap the ethereal beauty of acoustic guitar and strings and then combine them with just enough of a rock essence to create an aural palet that depicts(desounds?) a dieing relationship. There are great songs here punctuated by the sounds of a resperator telling us that the relationship is living and breathing but struggling. The music guides us through like an artfull, entertaining foreign film.
Blow Up Hollywood are artists in the true sence, trying to elavate their music above themselves. There is little hype here, just artistry. If you can appreciate that, this music is for you.

It's rare these days to find a band making such beautiful and powerful music. It's a cinematic trip that has to be heard. A wide scope of sonic ideas and lyrics to match. I can't stop listening to it. I'm a addict!!!
