Biography

Lostprophets is a British alt-metal band formed in 1997. The current members are Ian Watkins, Jamie Oliver, Stuart Richardson, Lee Gaze, Mike Lewis, Ilan Rubin and Matthew Crumpton.

The band developed their sound while touring and they recorded a number of demos, none of which are commercially available. While touring they caught the attention of Kerrang magazine and ended up playing a London gig.… Read more in Amazon's Lostprophets Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The Lostprophets CD booklet proclaims: "6 bored kids = melody-aggression-emotion-energy-intelligence." What it doesn't say, but should: "If you like Incubus, you'll like Lostprophets." The British outfit mines much of the same territory as their more thoughtful nu metal, new millennium brethren, mixing an earnest Incubus hippie vibe with Creed-like sincerity and dash a of Faith No More oddity and syncopation for a commercial, if not groundbreaking, sound. Vocalist Ian Watkins has personality and passion and the band's playing is crisp and dynamic. Turntables, loops, and keyboards lend depth and hip-hop flavor to the melodic, tightly wound rock. The 11 songs here are all uniformly strong and intense, if not always deep and unique. --Katherine Turman

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album, February 24, 2006
I was introduced to this band a couple years ago by a friend and I really liked thier heavy sound with Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja. So I bought this CD and was very impressed. The singer has a very distinct voice that switches from melodic to powerful screaming that keeps me interested. Plus they have real heavy guitar riffs that punch you in the face. I also own Start Something and this is much better I think.
Fav songs: Shinobi, Five is a four letter word, Kobrakai.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut, January 19, 2006
This album kicks ass, especially for a first album. Every song on the album is excellent quality, and each song showcase's everything that the prophets are about. Brilliant music, excellently sung. (and its not just in the studio, ian can pull out all the stops live as well). Buy this album before you buy their second record, Start Something!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than "Start Something", December 11, 2004
at least in my opinion it is. I, like most peaple who just heard of them, bought "Start Something" first and i liked that originally, so i decided to get their first cd. Most of the songs on "The Fake Sound of Progress" are harder than "Start Something" and it seems less radio friendly(which is a good thing in this case.) I first heard of this band a couple years ago when i saw the video for "Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja" but forgot about them until "Last Train Home," and even then it took me a while to make the connection between the two songs because the two cd's are so different(actually I made the connection when i went to download a song or two from "Start Something" to check it out before i bought it.) If you liked "Start Something" for songs like "Last Train Home" than you probably won't like "The Fake Sound of Progress." I like every song on this cd and whenever i get bored of listening to the radio(which is quite often) this is one of the cds i regularly put in the stereo.

As for similarities to other bands, I don't own any Incubus albums so i can't say they sound alike, and as for the Linkin Park similarity? A little bit in the music but not that much, really.
