AMAZING Japanese... uh... something...,

I first heard of these guys from another musician here in HK, but it took a long time for me to actually FIND the CD. It was worth the effort. Are you into Cornelius? Or Takako Minekawa? Then you will LOVE this band. Full of absolutely crazy mixed-up bleeps and burps, and samples from every place you can imagine, not to mention wild guitar and drums -- and then with Junko's girly-japanese vocals over the top -- it is a rock/pop/punk/kinder-core lover's DREAM. I'm a musician, and I can hear what they're doing and pretty much know how they are doing it -- but this record is so deep, there's so much going on, that listening completely wears me out. It's great. There are instrumentals as well as vocal songs on here. If you've never heard this style of J-rock sample mayhem, it will be like NOTHING else you've experienced. I give it 4 stars simply because I'm stingy, very few records rate a 5, you know? But I love this CD, and if you are even remotely into this mix-mash pop-collage style, you can't go wrong with this one -- seriously.

After hearing a few cuts from this CD on the "Cool and Strange Music" website several years ago I began searching for a copy. It took me quite a while to locate a U.S. distributer for this C.D. and I was quite surprised when a main-stream site like Amazon ended up being the first place I could find it (after months of searching). The album is like the musical brain stream of the most severely attention-deficit hyperactive kid you have ever met. Tight, precise, and unpredictable. The lyrics, while in English, sound like they are being sung in Japanese due to the thick accent. In reading the lyrics on the CD insert I have to wonder if they were originally written in Japanese and then translated with a bad on-line language translator. This, of course, just adds to the frenetic charm of the entire work.
I consider Plus Tech Squeeze Box to be one of the most innovative and exciting bands I have heard in the past several years.

I first saw this band perform on Adam & Joe go Tokyo performing track 2 on their CD & it was just so funky & so diffrent that i just had to go & get this album the next day. This CD is i think pointed at Japanese teenagers with the way that every time i play it it just makes me want to smile. Junko Kamada sings all the songs in Japanese which i think adds to the joy of this album her voice is just so beautiful & i just get so much pleasure from having this CD with me. |
