While the book is titled and themed around 'Faking It', you will come to realize that if you try these things, you will unwittingly improve yourself over time. There was a ton of good advice geared towards young adults coming out of college and in their early 20s, and also had a great mix of humor in with it. Basically it is a great self-improvement book that keeps you intensely interested beginning to end by offering out true advice mixed in with incredibly humorous sarcastic side notes.

Highly Recommended,

I found this book on accident and the title caught my eye. I was looking for a book to entertain my friend who broke his leg and found this. I was aiming for "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" and I ended up getting this one too. It's really funny and perfect for the college student/graduate that knows what it is like to just get by whether it be riding coattails or what have you. Great gift, probably more suitable for a guy but I am a girl and thoroughly enjoyed the book and ended up buying myself a copy later on. Good as a coffee table book and to read straight through. Highly recommended.

Life's Easy Little Shortcuts,
This review is from: Faking It: How to Seem Like a Better Person Without Actually ImprovingYourself (Hardcover)
A very funny book full of great advice for guys on how to seem just a little bit better than you actually are. Topics range from the practical, ordering wine and throwing a cocktail party with minimal effort, to the extreme, making up jail stories and doing drugs while looking respectable. The book can be read in an afternoon or can be used as a reference guide.

Hilarious, and - surprise, surprise - a little helpful.,

I'm sure that the last thing that the writers of "Faking It" intended was to dole out actual advice, focusing instead on making sure that their work was first and foremost a funny read. And it is, to be sure.
Those only tangentially familiar with their flagship website, CollegeHumor.com and its collection of user-submitted pictures and videos (some which predate YouTube) depicting all the stupidity and debauchery that is associated with college life, might be surprised to know that the enterprising young men and women behind the website are revealing themselves to be talented comedians in their own right. The staff-submitted articles and videos (many produced in their own office, under the banner "Hardly Working" series) are among the funniest and most popular on the site. And "Faking It" is a well-written, often hilarious - and yes, even informative - guide to college and post-college living. The book's advice on academia is the first and arguably most absurd portion of the book. Anyone following the advice offered here might very well find themselves searching for a new school before too long. "Faking It" goes on to offer its brand of off-kilter advice on searching for a job, furnishing an apartment, sounding like you know a lot about music, literature, and other aspects of supposed "high culture," dating, even cooking and entertaining guests. It's here, oddly enough, that the book really becomes genuine with its advice. Offering up creative and inexpensive ways to impress dinner and party guests alike, I was really impressed with some of the ideas offered up here. My favorite nugget of advice, though, comes from the section pertaining to dating and grooming: "If you have bad acne, we suggest that you don't anymore." And I suggest picking up this book. It's a hilarious read that may actually leave you with a good idea or two; provided you can sift them out from the stunningly bad ones.

Simply Wonderful!,

Buy this book, it's great. It's something like 60% funny BS and 40% valuable knowledge that you really can use and probably should have. I got this one and was laughing out loud and so far everybody I've let read it has loved it and most wanted to buy their own copy.
I should note, it's mostly geared to younger males. It has tips on how to dress, how to pick up girls, and how to make yourself seem more interesting. To give you an idea of the humor, one suggestion is to break items at your girlfriend's house, so you can be the white knight and repair them...just remember exactly how you disabled them. Ha ha ha! The back of the hard cover book I have has a fancy picture of the galaxy with a big impressive title and in small print tells you to leave this side facing up because people rarely read the small print. You know what, that actually worked on one person so far. They commented about how impressive it was I was reading a book on astrophysics! This book is just plain fun.

Perfect book for recent college grad or immature guys. Great book for a two-hour flight that actually has some good ideas for business. Made me laugh-out-loud several times. Recommend it highly to others like me who need a good laugh and some good mindless reading.

I bought this book because I thought it would be an enjoyable read. I liked the cover that made it look like the funny and helpful advice inside would be for both men and women. Upon reading it I found that it was only written for men. Each section has interesting things to say, and yes some are helpful, but very few things in this book apply to women. The fashion section doesn't even cover women's clothing at all. I think if they're going to put both genders on the cover they really should apply to both. Women could use amusing advice as well. I'm not a feminist, but I couldn't help but feel like it was pointless for me to read how to buy a suit. I read the prior book by CollegeHumor and it wasn't so single sided. I expected the same from this one, but instead wound up feeling like I was living in the 50's with how it was written.

This book was easy reading and witty. I enjoyed the book but it seems to be geared more toward a college age male reader. It offers some logical and interesting concepts that can be very helpful for the socially challenged guy.

got this a long time ago, but it was pretty funny. It is a satirical book and is very sarcastic. I wouldn't recommended actually doing anything it says in the book. You can actually learn some interesting facts from it well.

I love college humor series online, so naturally, I thought this book would be equally as funny.
The sad truth is it isn't. It's actually kinda boring to read. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. It reads more like a textbook than an actual story, so it's boring to follow. |
