Not bad, but not as good as previous albums,

The first thing I notice on this new Severe Torture album are the Pestilence-like vocals. Production is improved compared to Misanthropic Carnage, however, the album just doesnt feel the same. In fact, it seems like Severe Torture went from a brutal death metal band (ie Devourment, Internal Suffering, Deeds of Flesh), to your standard death metal band (Morbid Angel, Pestilence, etc...). What this means is that they've kinda slowed down and there arent as many blast beats coupled with those deep deep vocals. Bands progress and change or refine their sound, but Id much rather Severe Torture stayed with the same formula as previously used.

This album is great w/out a doubt! If you like old school death metal w/ a touch of maturity & flawless production, then this album is for you! I've only heard bits & pieces of Severe Torture's other works, but they don't compare to this album especially in it's production & sound. Don't be afraid to give this album a try!

Now, take the rhythm section of Aborted, mixed with Morbid Angel riffs and you got an idea what's is "Fall of the despised" is about, but the sound of Severe Torture is more refershing like Aborted's "The archaic abbatoir". I guaranteed that this album never boring you, because of the heaviness!!!
Great death metal album to add to your collection.

this is Severe Torture's transitional album, i don't mince words i even let the band know i found it odd and hard to swallow haha!
it's either too much soon or too little too soon. The first two were abrasive, heavy, brutal, mean spirited, gory, blasphemous slabs of "godamn you're scary" it was Cannibal Corpse inspired and it kicked your ass. this one is melodic (at times), soft, modern, ...plain. Most notable differences besides the music being much slower and less brutal is now they have solos (which are actually very good) and Dennis sometimes does high vocals that sound alot like Patrick Mameli (of Pestilence, which is also pretty good). It was the band trying their hand at adding a different take on their sound but they forsook far too much of their original ideas/concepts for this album... ever since the band has found their balance more and more and i HIGHLY recommend one checks into Slaughtered, it's everything decent about this one mixed with their early style. This album is only recommended for those who a) don't mind softer/more accessible/less destructive DeathMetal or b) those who will always support the band (which i will..., as long as they stay *at least* as heavy as this...)

Cannibal Corpse clones,

Severe Torture sounds like a carbon copy of Cannibal Corpse. this CD is basically Cannibal Corpse worship. I like this album, although I don't care for the song "End Of Christ". Severe Torture should be commended for their excellent musicianship and I hope that they come out with a new album.

the first two were decent, this....,

is boring. I don't know what the idiot up there is talking about but this is thier worst sounding record to date, I much prefer the sound of "feasting on blood". THis album shows the band going stale, vocal wise, guitar wise, etc....especially the vocals, what happened to the sick growls grom the first album? I meen not that the first one or the second one was something unique or special but I dug them....this I don't dig. Newcomers to extreme music or death metal may like this but to all others stay away.

To describe this record as typical death metal would be an affirmative declaration. Picture Deeds of Flesh with their dual vocal attack playing Morbid Angel riffs and you get an impression of what Severe Torture is. The band does manage to inject some variable life into each song, and while you get the same feeling out of every track, the tempo is mixed between fast blasting songs and explorations into mid-tempo territory. But no matter how you slice it, this is brutal death metal and if that's what you're into you might be pleased with this album. As for me, I'd rather listen to 'Domination' or 'Path of the weakening'.
