Fall Into Me, October 28, 2009
This review is from: Fall Into Me (Hearts of the South) (Paperback)
Angel Henderson has had absolutely no luck with men. Her on-off again relationship with Jim Tyre ended permanently when he showed up to retrieve his engagement ring to give to his new wife that she knew nothing about, and then the man she had high hopes for, Mark Cook, started seeing someone that he had loved from afar for a long time. To blow off steam, she found herself speeding, and was caught by none other than deputy Troy Lee Farr. She always appreciated how nice he was to look at, but would forever be way too young for her. When he later suggested they go out, Angel's first impulse was to say no, but after hearing his promise of nothing serious, just fun, she agreed.
The just fun scenario didn't last long, and before either of them realized it, real feelings had developed between them. She was so skittish about a relationship, that Troy Lee knew he would have to ease her in, but he was not letting her get away. He had waited far too long for her to be available, and he promised himself if she were ever free again, he would claim her for himself. Troy Lee had never felt the deep feelings he was having for Angel before, and to make her feel more in control, he said they would take it second by second, so she would never feel overwhelmed. She continued to run her bar The Cue Club, and with Troy Lee working for the sheriff's department by day; playing and singing at her bar by night, they settled into a comfortable routine. Just when they thought they were over any hurdles that might get in the way of them being a couple, fate stepped in. Angel was given news that she knew would end her relationship with Troy Lee.
Another winner for the Hearts of the South series!! The author continues to write very complex characters that we can all identify with. They are flawed and make mistakes, and that is probably what draws readers. The story is filled with sensuality, but has some very emotional and heart wrenching moments. We were introduced to Troy Lee and Angel in previous books, and it was great to see how their story evolved together. One thing I absolutely love about this series is that while Troy Lee and Angel were the focal point for this story, all the characters we have grown to know and love are included. Tick and Caitlin are important in this story as well as Mark and Tori, but they aren't the only ones. We are kept up to date on others we became attached to in earlier stories. While you can read this story as a stand alone, you will enjoy it much more if you read the earlier books in order.

Angel Henderson has struck out on love. She was dumped by her fiancée and then found herself rebounding to another man only to have him dump her too. So, when the 10 year younger Sheriff's deputy Troy Lee Farr tells her he wants a chance with her, she's not sure she's ready to take a chance with her heart again. Troy Lee puts all he has into convincing Angel that he's the man for her. However, just when it seems like they may have a future together Angel's past may cost them their chance at happiness
I have read each and every Lin Winfree book available. I mean I've devoured them as soon as I could. In fact, I can't think of one that I reviewed that I haven't Joyfully Recommended. Unfortunately Falling Into Me literally stunned me and not in a good way. I have to admit that Angel wasn't exactly the heroine I truly wanted for Troy Lee. I mean when the readers last saw her she had a one night stand with the hero from the last Hearts of the South book, Cookie. But like the true craftsman I know her to be Lin Winfree made me start liking Angel. I wanted more of Angel and Troy Lee, I was falling in love with them. Right up until Angel discovered that she was pregnant from her one night stand with Cookie. Then, in all honesty, I hated her. I'd waited forever, or at least many books, for Cookie and Tori, from Hearts Awakened to finally have their happily ever after only to have their story taken from them in a cruel twist in Falling Into Me. Readers who waited for Cookie and Tori, and loved them, would do well to be forewarned and prepared for heartbreak. Lin Winfree remains an author whose books I will be looking for but sadly Falling Into Me made me angry, sad and by the end of the book just plain let down, something I can't remember ever being after reading Lin Winfree before.
