About the Author

Author Rob Lewis is a Fall River native who now lives in Newport, Rhode Island. He is a professional photographer whose other two books in the Images of America series-Newport and Aquidneck Island-have delighted residents and tourists alike. In this volume, a tribute to the city of his birth, Lewis evokes memories of a past long gone that will certainly be remembered for generations to come.

Format: Paperback
This book is comprised of two historical photos of Fall River per page, divided by chapters such as "Buildings", "Schools", etc. The text is the captions under the photos. There is a wealth of information in those captions such as: what year a structure was made, what year it was razed, what took its place, its location both old and new, etc. It is an easy reference tool to historical Fall River, Massachusetts, in the sense that it would take a person poring over many other books to get all this information, if you even did then. What I did not like about the book: The author did not include a great variety of schools or churches, and had several on the same property. Photos on Lizzie Borden are four: Portrait of Lizzie; photo of murder house; arrest log; and the entrance to Oak Grove Cemetery.
I enjoyed this well-done book. But I wish there were more photos in it.

This book is nice but there is very little information about where the photographs came from. You get an basic overview but if you want to learn more about the subject and find better copies of the images there are no resources.
