damn near perfect,

i check the metal blade label site everyday to see if there is any new band signings. Winter solstice caught my attention. their older stuff didnt seem too promising, but when i heard one of the songs on The Fall of Rome, i was impressed. The new vocalist is much better. the breakdowns is what makes this cd so good. the techincality and different strum patterns make them different. if you like metalcore, metal with hardcore influences, hardcore with metal influences, or whatever people are calling it now a days, get this asap

Full of promise,

Winter Solstice is just one of the few bands out there today that is full of promise and just waiting to blow up, which is apparent on "The Fall of Rome". Featuring some dynamic guitar work and nearly death metal-esque vocals, this Virginia based "metal core" outfit has all the ingredients of being successful in the metal genre, much like Killswitch Engage has had recently. Standout tracks include the opening "Following Caligula", the title track, and "Malice in Wonderland", all of which show Winter Solstice's promise, even though the album wears thin after the first half. That in itself is the only downside of "The Fall of Rome"; it sounds more generic as it reaches the end of the disc, but the promise is still there, and Winter Solstice has the formula of being something great. All in all, "The Fall of Rome" is a worthy listen for new and old metal heads alike.

Good thrash metal,
This review is from: The Fall of Rome (Audio CD)
This CD is very well done and is surprisingly strong for a newer band. The music is awesome and contained some great breakdowns. The album does get somewhat repetitive in the latter part. What I mean by latter part is after Malice in Wonderland (track 6). Starting with 55/23, the songs start to resemble the ones at the beginning of the disc and the listener begins to wonder "Where have I heard that before?" But this CD is definitely worth adding to your collection. Winter Solstice is definitely the top thrash metal band out right now.

i saw winter solstice with it dies today and if hope dies and they put on the best performance of all three bands but the singers voice live and on the record sound totally different, it's still a good voice but i think with his talent he could have made the record sound alot better. it's still brutal as f*ck

First off I would like to say that it makes me very sad that they got a new vocalist, I have not heard there new one yet, but the guy that is doing vocals on this cd sounds really cool. I think he sounds like a walrus, anyways this is a great cd and you should definitely buy it. In case you are wondering the guys in this band are all good Christians although they do not openly advertise it. Buy this cd, it is one of a kind.

I love these guys. I especially love their new vocalist Peter Walters. If you havnt heard what he has added to this band, then you definatly need to see them live. The vocals are good on the cd, but those Matt's. Peter adds so much more depth and skill to the vocals. Buy this album and go see them live!

Thrash Inspired Hardcore...,

Just Picked this up on whim. Very solid release from a Band that sadly is no longer in existence. Other reviewers were right, this CD does start to dwindle towards the last few tracks. However a few tracks really shine and make this an above average release. "The Hampton Roads Fourth Annual Parade For The Blind" "Following Caligula" and "Courtesy Bow" are my personal fav's. Pick it up!

I really enjoy this CD. Good guitars riffs, great drums, but the singing takes a bit to get used to. Sounds like the guy was losing his voice a bit during recording.

This is the first cd that I have bought this year and been completely blown away. Everything on this album is awesome. I haven't taken it out of my cd player since I picked it up on Tuesday. These guys are primed to blow up! I can't wait to see them play live it's going to be great. Anyways the whole cd is great. I love the crunchy guitars and heavy drumming. I can't believe how amazing this band is. Congrats are in order to Metal Blade for getting these guys. The band reminds me of an early Killswitch Engage right before their second album took off. I really expect similar things from WS. To think that this album is as good as it is is surprising. I remember hearing these guys on a compliation and not thinking all that highly of them, but after getting a sample mp3 on Metal Blade's website I decided I had to get this cd and I haven't been disappointed. This album should be on everyone's radar in the next couple of months, just watch. It took KSE's second album a little while to catch on but once it did, boom, it blew up. Just rest assured knowing that you had this album way before anyone else if you're smart enough to pick this up ASAP.

If you have to do an essay on the fall of Rome, why not bring this disc into History class. you'll be guaranteed a passing grade, considering if your History teacher is a metalhead! this disc gets your brain rolling.
