5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read
Nora Roberts did it again with MacKade brothers series. The brotherly bond between Jared, Rafe, Devin and Shane is like no other. Having read the other books, Shane was the brother that you wondered if he would ever settle down. Rebecca is an overachiever that has never known any type of love. You wouldn't have expected the farm boy to fall for the dr. but they are...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
Shane's story was my least favorite of the all the books. Read about Rafe, Jared and Devin and then see what you think of Shane's story. All are very good reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the series, July 18, 2011

I love all the MacKade brothers books. This one is my favorite though. It wraps up the ghost story quite nicely and I love Shane and Rebecca. He is so protective of her and when he finds out what her life was like he makes sure she knows she is loved. I recommend the series to anyone that wants a nice love story with 4 hot brothers and the women who are prefect for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shane's story was the best!!!!, September 8, 1999

This review is from: Fall Of Shane Mackade (The Mackade Brothers) (Mass Market Paperback)
"The Fall of...." was the best of the 4 Mackade series!!! I wish a man like Shane was around to sweep ME off my feet!!! Rebecca aka "Becky" to Shane was always a brainy nerd. WAS a nerd. Shane is absolutely smitten with her and they end up falling hard. This was the best followed by Devin, Jared, then Rafe. Nora has an exceptional talent for writing books in a series. Next I'm going to tackle the O'Hurleys!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced, intriguing series, May 18, 1999

This review is from: Fall Of Shane Mackade (The Mackade Brothers) (Mass Market Paperback)
Best of luck in finding all four installments to the MacKade series. I was fortunate enough to find all four of the books on the shelf at the local Bookstar. Since some of the series is out of print, I guess they had leftover copies, which is great for me because I won't buy a completed series without being able to purchase all of the books. Too frustrating otherwise! :)

The MacKades is the best of Nora's contemporary series novels that I've read. Although I enjoyed the Stars of Mithra series enormously, the MacKades top it by a mile. The paranormal elements to the story are much more credible than the Stars and fit into the story much more seamlessly. I enjoyed plumbing ever more deeply in each succeeding novel into the ghosts of Antietam and seeing their continuing effect on the MacKade family.

The best of the best of the four is THE HEART OF DEVIN MACKADE. After Devin's story, I'd list the others: Shane, Rafe, and Jared. Enjoy the MacKade brothers and their ladies. I look forward to Nora writing about the children someday ala the MacGregor series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Farm Boy Falls Hard for Nerd, April 1, 2005
This review is from: Fall Of Shane Mackade (The Mackade Brothers) (Mass Market Paperback)

Nora Roberts is once again in her element when writing about a vibrant family in which each member oozes personality. Her series on the MacKade brothers is one of her most fun for the reader and gives you a bit of everything in the plots.

The Fall of Shane MacKade is the last in this series and focuses on Shane MacKade, youngest brother to Jared, Rafe and Devin. Shane may be the youngest, but he holds his own in the family battles. Since the other three are happily married, Shane is determined to continue as a single man who enjoys the company of women, all women.

When Dr. Rebecca Knight, who has spent her life in the world of academia and collecting degrees, comes to town to visit her old college roommate, Regan MacKade, a series of events are set in motion that will forever change the lives of both Rebecca and Shane. Rebecca is determined to start living life instead of studying it and decides on researching the ghosts that are said to haunt Antitam, Maryland - the site of many civil war battles and home to the MacKades. It's a bit of a detour from Rebecca's normal interests, but something she feels is worth exploring.

All of the MacKades had experiences with the ghosts in their area. Having grown up there, they have heard the battles as the ghosts continue their fights on the fields, and all are eager to talk about these to Rebecca. That is all of the brothers except Shane, who denies any experiences with the paranormal activities that surround him and are fluent on the farm. Rebecca is eager to find out not only about the ghosts that haunt him, but why he is in denial about their existence.

And since this is a Silhouette Special Edition, romance is the key ingredient in this story. Rebecca falls for Shane. Shane falls for Rebecca. Both are too stubborn to realize it until it's time for Rebecca to head back to New York and Shane must break down and tell her how he really feels - not only about the ghosts but about the thought of losing her.

Ok, so the ending is a bit predictable, it's a typical romance, but what is not typical is the interactions of the characters. At one point you have the four brothers rolling around outside of the barn in a free-for-all fight and the spouses in the house watching through the windows placing bets on which brother will win, while readying the ice bags. Ah yes, this has been a very entertaining series.

Yes, this is a typical love story, but with the added flashbacks into the past and the orneriness of the MacKade brothers, it's just plain fun. I've read each of the MacKade Brother books (The Return of Rafe MacKade, The Pride of Jared MacKade, The Heart of Devin MacKade and The Fall of Shane MacKade) and found each to be enjoyable and you will chuckle at their antics. If only life could be so simple...

5.0 out of 5 stars MacKade Brothers, August 5, 2011
The Fall of Shane MacKade is the fourth book in the MacKade series but could be a standalone. In fact, this was the first book I read of the series and was my first romance ever. It's the story of Shane MacKade the last single MacKade brother. All that changes when Dr. Rebecca McKnight came to town. Rebecca left the city and traditional research to reunite with an old college friend and study ghosts. The characters are wonderful and very well developed. The author did a great job of playing the characters off one another. The story is funny, sad, happy, and loving.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Ending, June 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Fall Of Shane Mackade (The Mackade Brothers) (Mass Market Paperback)
Unfortuately, when you are a writer of Nora Roberts' caliber, your books are compared to each other. Though this book is probably better than most Silhouettes, it falls short of Roberts' usual excellence. This book is the most lacking of the MacKade series. By this fourth book, the MacKade plot is so predictable: girl meet guy, because girl and guy are opposites they have sparks, girl and guy sleep together, problems arise, girl and guy sleep with each other in a "different" way (i.e. torrid first to tender second), girl and guy realize they're in love by how they made love, dramatic scene, happy ending. In this book, the ever-so-charming Shane introduced in the previous books is missing his charm and is rather boorish. Add to that a mediocre (and goofy) ghost subplot and a very disappointing epilogue that's doesn't even draw in of the previous characters! You simply do not have the high standards of the normally excellent work of Nora Roberts with this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Back Cover, April 16, 2006
This review is from: Fall Of Shane Mackade (The Mackade Brothers) (Mass Market Paperback)
Shane MacKade loved women. But he hadn't met one yet who had him whistling the wedding march. Until Dr. Rebecca Knight. Problem was, the pretty lady was too busy hunting legends on the MacKade land to succumb to the MacKade charm. Maybe it was time to pop the old question. 'Cause this one woman Shane couldn't live without...

To Dr. Rebecca Knight, everything was explainable. Until she started having some very irrational thoughts about sexy Shane MacKade. She didn't know much about men, but she knew one thing for sure: Loving Shane was dangerous - and Rebecca didn't like to take chances...

[4th in the MacKade Brothers series]
